Guest 23cronin
We are looking for a town that will enable my OH to walk to the station and get the train directly into the centre of Perth. It would be great if it was also walkable to the beach and/or shops. I will be home alone all day so if it had some shops, park, library that would be the icing on the cake. Anyone got any ideas?? Not thinking about the money at the moment I want to get the town right. I can always settle for a smaller home if the town is good.
Philpom
You won't really find any suburb of Perth where you can be adjacent a train line and walk to the beach. The only one exception may be Fremantle, but come with your pockets full of cash if you want to live within walking distance. If you want to live near the beach and want your OH to commute on the train, then it would be advisable to be near a bus route that connects with a train station and then he can have one continuous journey in and out of the city (which I assume is where he will be working). You would have to decide for yourself whether you want or need to live north or south of the river.

Guest 23cronin
Thank you both all replies are appreciated. Difficult to make decisions with no information so all information is good, thanks I guess if I had to give up an option it would be the walk to beach. It would be good to be able to walk to the station and yes he is working in central Perth. Edited May 23, 2012 by 23cronin
jackboots
I used to live in Leeming and could walk to Murdoch train station and Bus , also walk to the stockland shopping center nearbye That saying most suburbs are quite large so you would want to live nearer rather than further away from shops /train etc which we did in Leeming, also it was a 20 drive to the beach . surhythms
We live in Carine and its about a 15 min walk to Warwick train station although you can drive there in about 5 mins and park all day for $2! We live right beside Carine Open Space which is a huge open park. We are about a 10 min drive from the beach and there is a local shopping centre which is a 10 min walk. There is also Warwick Shopping centre which is about a 5 min drive and has Coles, wollies and everythign you pretty much need for day to day living. Duncraig Library is about a 5 min drive aswell. JaynBev
We live in Joondalup & can walk to Edgewater / Joondalup train station in 25mins (plus theres a free cat bus weekdays). The beach is about 10mins drive however but it's a great location & the shops are open on Sunday (trust me you will miss it when you dont have it - lol)
Give me a break!
When you get here you may find things different to what you are expecting anyway. For a start walking for a lot of the year is not a pleasant experience because of the heat, certainly a walk to the shops sounds nice, but the walk back with heavy bags when its 32c isnt! Also you may find that even living near a beach, you will drive as you have to carry so much rubbish.
