I've been living in Perth for 2 weeks, just moved to Clarkson (6 months tester!) and trying to find a friend for my toddler (21M) and myself! Where abouts are you meeting at the Park? I haven't been there myself but have seen on the map it is in Joondalup, but it looks absolutely huge?! We'll be getting public transport, but there's a bus that goes within a block of the park so we're fine I hope! Bianca

Guest pat and mike
we've been here 3 yrs, and have become citizens...we realised that to feel settled we needed to integrate asap, so we did things we would never have done in the uk: joined our local residents group, did our "skippers ticket" even tho we don;t have a boat and have only hired one a few times, joined a sports centre (aqua jetty in warnbro) and volunteered as school mentors. we also bought the West Australian every day, and read everything ; weaher, fishing reports, footy pages, business...the inside cover's the BEST for gssip and sleaze. the aussies are behind the times compared to the uk, and whilst it means coles and woolies aren't open 24h, and they don't do internet deliveries (yet..coles are onto it) it does mean we Poms can make our mark..when you suggest an improvement based on something we've had for years in th uk, they look up to you. Via the residents association we've moved onto other things where we've found ourselves having dinner at the races with a Member of the Upper House, had a beer with Carps, and had a political leader sitting in our lounge asking views on Neighbourhood Watch/graffiti etc. Because it's a v small city, if you get out and DO things, things open up for you. we - and our aussie friends -find it amusing the places we've been and the people we've met. we've not sought them out, they've just appeared. we'd never done anything like that in the uk, nor had the slightest opportunity!! there are times we wonder "why the bloody hell did we ever volunteer"....etc but we can back off a bit now 'cos we've settled in. the other thing we did to integrate was...get a dog. the weathers good, the air's clean, there's plenty of open spaces, its good exercise ...and you meet LOADS of locals!!!!
