Hi

We are hoping to move over to Perth in September this year and are just waiting on our 457 visa to come through (via hubby's work).

My husband will be based in Kewdale and i have been offered a job based in maddington/bassendean....I have the option of 2 days maddington/1 day bassendean or 3 days bassendean but am veering towards the former given that Bassendean seems an arse to get to from a lot of places-particularly near the coast!!! (Kewdale seems to be a quicker commute from virtually anywhere!)

Anyway, We have a young baby (9 months old) and are hoping to improve our quality of life...we currently live in a good sized 2 bed place in cheshire (only haven't upgraded due to the move) so are hoping to end up long term in a bigger house (3-4 bed) but in a really good area where there are good child care facilities and a great outdoor lifestyle.

NOR is great for if I was based in Bassendean but the property prices are dead high if you want to be close to the coast or the river, and it seems there aren't many cheaper options that would give us the lifestyle we want esp safety etc. It seems that SOR may be better for us esp if I base myself in Maddington. What do people think? Is this right?

if I was based in maddington/bassendean.... what suburbs are good and which should be avoided? We have looked at write ups on places like Beeliar, atwell, success, canningvale......

ANy thoughts would be very welcome and gratefully received!

Well you've thrown that one wide open. There's some nice suburbs around Bassendean, but really from what you are saying, I think either job will make it more difficult living NOR. Personally I wouldn't choose Maddington as a place to live, but it is affordable. Nearby Huntingdale would be a better choice. If your OH is working in Kewdale, then you might want to look at High Wycombe, Maida Vale, Forrestfield, Belmont and suburbs around, there. This will place you nicely in between all work situations. No too sure about childcare in those areas. Also if you choose those areas, you're not exactly living the beach side dream that everyone seems to dream of. I guess firstly there's the dream and then there's the reality of what is practical and affordable. Only you can decide that. Up to you if you want to live NOR and make the daily commute to SOR for employment.

Hi

Thanks for getting back to me....i don't think either of us want live in maddington but I think we both feel that working there may open us up to a wider variety of affordable suburbs and ideally we'd like to be relatively close to the beach which I think is more probable SOR as it looks a little more affordable ...we were looking at success, atwell or similar...any thoughts? Where would u avoid?

I had friends that lived in both those suburbs and the suburbs seemed decent enough. At least then you'd have access to the freeway, Roe Hwy, Mandurah train line and be 15 to 20 mins from the beach. It's probably a better option than the suburbs I mentioned earlier.
