There's a couple of really good playground in Kings Park - The Synergy Parkland and Sticky beaks playground that kids that age love. Both have cafes but the Synergy Parkland area has free BBQ's so bring some sausages and buns and cook outside. There's also the DNA tower in Kings Park that my sons loved to climb up and throw their hats from the top!! My sons also loved Heathcote playground where there is a giant pirate ship - use to play hide and seek - http://www.acoffeeinthepark.com/heathcote-reserve Again cafe and free BBQs.

Go to the Margaret River Chocolate Factory either in the city or the Swan Valley and have a hot chocolate and the kids can try all the free chocolate samples. It's more of a shop than a factory but they'll like the free chocolate.

Caversham Wild life park seems to be a big hit with all the tourists though I haven't been there for years. The Maze is near Caversham, that's good fun http://www.themaze.com.au/ They are mile away from Port Kennedy but will give you an idea of the northern Suburbs!

Mandurah has a nice playground next to the river. You can go on a one hour dolphin cruise that leaves near where the Dome Cafe is and you usually see dolphins. Good fish and chip place next to where the cruise leaves.

Penguin island in Rokingham if the weather is nice.

If you want to splash out go to Rottnest for the day from Fremantle. Hire bikes when you get there and go on a quoka hunt -kids would love that. You could easily fill a day up in Rottnest.

Wet days there are loads of indoor playground. My sons liked tropical Twist - http://www.tropicaltwist.com.au/ but there may be some near where you are staying.

There are a few outdoor pools that are heated through winter or indoor pools that have slides/waves but not sure what is available down your way.
