ROB T
Hi all. Although we are not arriving until early 2013 I would like to know if it's better to contact preffered schools now and start putting our children's names forward or do we have to wait until we have landed in Perth? I suppose it depends on where we finally settle in terms of location of our long term rental and therefore the catchment area etc? We are just trying to navigate around any possible waiting lists! Georgiajoemillie
Hi, not sure if this is true but it heard that if your in a catchment area they have to give you a placement, before someone shoots the messenger I'm not sure it's true !!!!! TheRocks
Are you looking to go private or state. State school they don't take names for school unless you are in the area, if you are in the catchment area they have to find you a place. Don't know about private but I would suspect they will let you put names down seeing as they get money out of you for the privilege of being put on their list. Give me a break!
Yes most private schools will, allow you to put your name down, but they do charge you an administration fee to do so, ours was $50 but some Ive heard can be a couple of hundred dollars. Public schools will for the vast majority of cases only take from the catchment area although I have heard of some that will bend for various reasons, but Im pretty sure they wouldnt bend for out of the country applications. Hi Rob, We are not going till then either and when we went on our reccie last sept and visited the schools in the area we are hoping to live, we were told we could register in the july before you emigrate at no cost on their websites. Even if you do not go until later at least you are registered, Hope this helps.

Gobi, we also looked at schools mainly between Sorrento & Mindarie, there seems to be lots of choice both with State and Private. Which part of Perth were you guys considering? Looking at your piccy it seems that you may have found Hillarys Marina??

ROB T
We are looking at Woodvale, Hocking and Pearsall as close to edgewater station. Woodvale looks ideal, infact so does Hocking & Pearsall. Not much wrong with any suburbs around there, handy for Joondalup, handy for the train / CBD and handy for the beach.
