Hi Guys,

I'm in the process of getting quotes for removalists and need to ensure that if I take my double (very cosy) mattress, that it would fit into an Australian bought double bed frame.. I've googled the sizes, and on Wikipedia it says theres a 4cm difference in length... the UK/Irish mattress is longer (apparently?).

Has anyone taken their mattresses over from home & bought the frame in Perth?

Please let me know, cause if we cant squeeze it into a frame, we may aswell leave it here.

Thanks!

A UK King Size is an Aus Queen. Aus King is UK Super King.

Ref double long as you buy a frame with no upstand at the foot of the bed you should be fine bringing yours across.

We shipped a Waterbed (ok we did empty it first!!!) so had great fun finding bedding that fitted the mattress as it's a little deeper than a normal mattress.

I compared our 4 6" double mattress to an IKEA Australia mattress and they're all Length: 189 cm Width: 135 cm

and our Irish one is 135 x 190...

I reckon we could buy an IKEA bed frame & get away with it! I've decided to take it. I guess worse case it can be kept under another bed for sleep overs...

Australian mattresses are the same as most of the rest of the world including America. The UK has different sized mattresses and so does Western Europe. Ikea sell there standard sized mattresses and beds here which are different to both British and International bed sizes. If you bring a mattress the bedding will also need to come from the UK as bedding here is not quite designed for UK mattresses. We brought our beds and mattresses and now wish we'd sold them in the UK and started with new beds in Australia. We would have saved on shipping and been able to buy bedding in local shops.
