Guest Jimmy G
Hello everyone! I've just found this site and it looks very helpful. Im currently in talks with a company in the Security Installations industry regarding sponsorship. If they agree to sponsor me and we start the 457 application process, does anyone know, or have there own experiences of how long the process takes to go through? My aim is to get to Perth in June 2013, do you think this is realistic or not? Any advice will be a huge help. Thankyou.

Guest twotykes
Hi Jimmy We applied on the 28th April got everything submitted and approved by 12th June with a 4yr visa and will be flying out to Perth on the 17th July !! It seems they have really speeded up the process Overall it was very easy to do the whole thing online the longest wait was the medicals being processed seems they have a bit of a backlog at the Sydney Medical sorting office but even so we have been quite amazed at how fast it has all happened Good Luck Mary & Gary Robertson

Thanks everyone for the advice and enjoy your new lives out there, I'm so jealous right now. Jo1977, did you have any trouble proving your relationship being defacto? Was the joint account enough? Hi Jimmy We also included 4 other pieces of paperwork that was in both our names. We had council tax letter, mortgage statement, solicitor letter and a bill. Two of them were from 2006 (to prove we had been together a while) and two 2011/12. We had no contact from immigration about our relationship once submitted. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions! Do you think you would go out to Oz earlier than 2013? Jo Have a look at these links:http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skilled-workers/_pdf/457-application-checklist.pdf This one will tell you if you need to have a medical, we didn't need to have one:http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1163i.pdf Edited June 26, 2012 by Jo1977

I thought the process was alot longer thats why I've started looking so far in advance. Thanks for all the help. We would move tomorrow if we could but I'm military until until April next year, but after that we are free to enjoy Perth. :-). I hope the move has been everything you both wanted it to be. Jimmy, yes its quick and easy 'IF' the company sponsoring you already have the approval from DIAC to be able to nominate you and sponsor you, 'IF' not there will be a 6 week delay while the company gets the approval from DIAC to be able to Nominate you, the company have to renew this approval every year if they intend bringing others over on 457's. Your timescale might not suit your future employer, normally the 457 is reserved to get people over quickly, in fact the employer has to prove to DIAC there is an urgent need for you and no one else in Australia can fill the position, they are normally looking in the next 3 months or so, if you have a whole year to play with push your employer for a sponsored ENS or RSMS Visa, these are permy visas and normally take 5 months or so. Once the company has the ability to nominate you its normally pretty quick, steps 2 & 3 can be done in a week. The visa application is a 3 step procedure: Step 1 : The company who wants to sponsor you needs approval from DIAC to be able to nominate you Step 2 : One approval has been gained they nominate you Step 3 : You apply for the visa online once nomination has been approved. Hi Just to say it depends which country you are from if you are going to need a medical with the 457 visa. There are 3 categories of risk associated with TB levels in the country: low/medium/high Low risk includes the UK and Ireland therefore you do not automatically need medicals unless you are going to work in the following: doctor/dentist/nurse/paramedic/child care center/ or are pregnant. If you are in Africa, it is in the high risk category and therefore have to have chest xray and medical. This link explains it all:http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1163i.pdf Good luck with your move..how exciting
