Hi all,

A quick post to introduce myself before I ask a load of questions over the next few months!

I'm moving to Perth with my partner later this year on a 457 working for a consultancy in the CBD. I'll be moving out in September, and my girlfriend will be joining me in November. I'm just in the process of sorting the visa at the moment which is taking a bit of time due to all the supporting information required, but I'm getting there slowly!

Neither of us have ever been to Australia, but we're willing to take a chance and hope it all works out well! Basic plan is to get a place in Fremantle/Western Suburbs for the first 6 months and see how we like it before choosing somewhere on a longer term. We're hoping that my girlfriend can get a job temping/admin to support my income and we can make the most of Perth and save some money at the same time. I'm 27, my girlfriend is 28 - no kids/dogs or any other big commitments other than a wedding at some point in the next few years!

Anyway, look forward to hearing your experiences of Perth and may well see some of you out there later this year.

Cheers!

We are hoping to be out in September too, my husband Marc also has a consultancy job in CBD !! We have got 5 kids and a dog though :))) I noticed you are from Manchester, we are in Wigan !!!

Marc's company have put his visa nomination forward today so fingers crossed for the first part of the process.

Good luck.

Sounds like we're in exactly the same situation!! I'm 28, moving out in October on a 457 and my other half is due out in November. We're also living in Manchester at the moment. Very excited, but also feeling a bit terrified at the same time! Seems like there is just so much to do. How are you finding it all?

Hi

We are also from Manchester and are hoping to move out to Perth this time next year if not before. We have just had a positive response from Vetassess and are awaiting the letter this week. We then need to apply to the government and then once that is accepted the DIAC which ive read will take 6 months for a 190 Visa.

I have been to Perth twice, once with my family when i was 12, we stayed for 4 weeks and I knew i wanted to come back. My dad did want to move out there but he didnt as his mother was living with us. I then visitied again with my Fiancee last January for 3 weeks. We again stayed with family and decided from that trip that we definately wanted to move.

We have faced problems with my other halfs family, they just cannot understand why we would want to move. I just said there is a big world out there and we want to explore and Manchester (as much as i love it) just isnt enough anymore. We also have a 8 month old baby and want her to have a good outdoors and healthy life, as well as the weather in Perth being one of the best places in Oz i just know we have to give it a go.

I have so much respect for people who are willing to take a risk and try and change their life for the better, it is very daunting to think of doing it but you will never know if you dont try.

Good Luck with your move :)

I've sent all of the information off for the visa to the agent so just waiting on that now. Once I've got the visa then I'll be able to work out a start date, when we'll fly over, when our stuff will be collected to be shipped etc, etc.

The company that I'm joining in Perth are sorting all of the visas, transport and removals as well as putting us up for the 1st month while we find our own place so that's a big help - the main concern at the moment is finding a place to live in that first month. We're kind of in limbo at the moment which is a bit of a pain. I can't really start sorting stuff in the UK, or preparing for stuff in Perth until the visa has been processed.

Really looking forward to it all, just nervous excitement at the moment!

Same for me. Work is dealing with it all but can't do anything until visa is finalised - hoping to hear by end of the month or early August. Seems like a nightmare sorting accommodation without being there in person which I'm finding quite frustrating. Just want to get there now!

Hi, I'm from Manchester moved out mid- march with a 176 visa as my oh was on the skills list. We did housesitting when we first arrived so we got to see places NOR & SOR before we committed to a rental just outside Freo (it was our favourite place) although I thought I wanted to live in the city until I got here & realised I wanted to be near the beach! We are loving it so far, had some challenges, but I wouldn't go back to the UK to live again that's for sure!!

Could you tell me a bit more about the housesitting process? We're not really set on any particular area to live, as long as it's within 15ish km of the CBD (I'm planning on cycling to and from the office as I do in the UK) so it'd be great to see a few places and get a bit of a feel for Perth when we first arrive.

We registered on a few websites (like housecarers.com) you have to pay a small fee (like $50) and put a profile up and they send you notifications so you can apply to people. We had a few gaps & rented holiday places in-between. It's great if you don't mind moving around. The shortest we did was 10 days the longest 7 weeks. It did us well, took the pressure off finding jobs (it took me 3 months to get something decent!). I would recommend it.

Hi

We are from Manchester too! Hoping to move in October just waiting for 176 visa to come through (final stages). We have also looked at house sitting for the first few weeks to save a bit of money, after that we have a dog so its not as easy!! Hoping to move to Mandurah but as we havent been to Oz before we are keeping our options open!

Just heard that my 457 is expected to be approved in the next couple of weeks. Had a chat with my new employers this morning, and we're looking like flying out w/c 3rd of September! Makes things much easier having a date in mind now - the planning can really begin in earnest!

Hi guys. Myself and my partner have recently had our 176 approved and have booked flights to move to Perth next June...living in Manchester until we go..good to see a lot of people from north west moving out too :). We managed to secure 3 months rental in fremantle for when we arrive until we know where we fancy settling. Have a look on ozhouserentals...that's where we book and Tracey was really helpful x x

Perth is beautiful - you won't believe the beaches & we've only seen the ones in the metro area. It certainly beats Middleton!! It has been quite cold & wet though (worse than I expected) for the past 2 months, but it is winter. Only what you'd expect in m'cr but you do get sunny days in-between. I'd say come while it's still warm (we arrived march).
