Guest Lovepug13
Hi, First post ever and was looking for a little help...... currently discussing wages with a Perth based employer.....is 130,000 aud an acceptable salary for living in Perth? We have no children, just me and my partner. We would like to live near the beach......I am currently researching suburbs and some recommendations would be nice. I look forward to some feedback. In the near future Thanks Lovepug
DyLeB
Hi Lovepug!! We are not yet in Perth but my OH was offered a very similar salary to what you have been offered, (You need to make sure that is not including your super). Will be interested in the replys - but I would say that $130,000 is a really good salary - around £60k (based on exchange rate 2.2). Is your OH planning to work too. I am still researching at the moment....I am worried about the cost of living to be honest. Have some time with relocation person....gonna write a long list lol Thanks. DyLeB
I think it is difficult to get back on your feet once you get there - with all the outlay of costs. Somethings are more expensive and some are cheaper.
Guest Lovepug13
Have a little bit of money to bring with us, have a bit of equity in home and other bits and pieces. Will see what happens

I would have said a $130k AUD is closer to £86k, not £60k. Do you know something I don't? I hope you're right incidentally and I am wrong! I hope you're right incidentally and I am wrong! Because the cost of living in Perth is higher than the UK, sol most people work on an exchange rate of between 2.2 to 2.5 to get a true feel of what the standard of living here gets you in dollars. So, as posted, a $130k salary is going to give about the same standard of living as 60k pounds.
verystormy
A $130k salary is decent. On its own it isnt going to buy or rent a place next to a central perth beach, but if your wife works it may.
nicolac34
$130k is a good wage for Perth, if your wife starts working as well then you'll be pretty set up. We have a combined income of $168k and find that we are able to save a large chunk of that and spend what we like without really counting the pennys. But then we've tried to keep our household expenses as low as possible (rent etc).
Philpom
130k on for a couple with no kids will be a doddle. It might be expensive in Perth, but you're not going to blow that sort of salary unless you choose to live the high life.
Guest Lovepug13
What line of work are you in Lovepug? I'm curious. I work within Construction, I am Lead Estimator for a company that specialises in construction of infrastructure and associated assetts - Substations, Grid Sites, Treatment Works etc..... My missus isnt 100% convinced yet so we will probably get over in near future for a bit of a look..... THanks for all the feedback guys, I am thinking we will be able to live on this sort of money Can anyone tell me the "beach suburbs" we should look at? Thanks again

nicolac34
Hi Nicola34.. out of interest, where do you rent? Thanks, Jo We rent in Subiaco, 2 bed furnished unit with a garden and parking for $450 per week. We found this on Gumtree and it's done us well for the past year. We are thinking of upgrading to something a bit nicer/more modern/bigger (which will be more rent) in the next six months.
