Guest david1805
Hi, My wife, daughter and I are visiting Perth in October as a bit of a reccie. I have a job offer for Feb '09. I am in the process of applying for my offered PR visa. We are trying to ascertain how we arrange to view homes to rent in Feb '09. There are lots of real estate agents (unlike the UK where a large company covers big areas). Can anyone give any tips on; 1. Decent areas to live 2. How to contact a realestate agent to view areas and properties? Thanks David
Guest pomsrus
Hi David Where will you be working? I am based in Mandurah approximately 1 hour south of Perth (I believe it is 45 minutes on the new train service that we have). I can help you with the Mandurah and Rockingham areas and surrounding suburbs. Am also a licensed finance/mortgage broker so have many friends in real estate in these areas. I have been here nearly 3 years and so can help with the above suburbs if you want to ask any questions. But when looking at which suburbs, Mandurah is 1 hour South of Perth and in between Perth and Mandurah is Rockingham, 25- 30 minutes north of Perth is Hilarys, but I wouldn't be confident in advising you about the surrounding suburbs north of Perth (north of the river, as they say) because I don't know them well enough. But if Mandurah or Rockingham are on your list of possibilities I will be able to answer any questions you might have. bye for now Catherine

Guest kelinperth
Hi David, You may like to check Madeley Rise (in the north) development at the Madeley Suburb, it has access to freeway to the city, has established community and POMS will hang out around the area with irish pubs around. Has good primary and high schs, near to shopping centre (within 5 min drive)...more importantly the price of this estate has dropped in price due to bad property conditions for the past one yr...it's affordable and nice....and will make a good investment once the market conditions improved. I am working for the developer as administrator..if you are interested you can talk to mike morgan, the estate consultant...he is from UK too...has been here for more than 10yrs, I am sure he will be able to help you or you can visit http://www.watsonpropertygroup.com or email mike@watsonpropertygroup.com or call him at 9409 2774. Cheers, Kel

ali
Where is your job offer? When you come over I would look at areas with regard to where you're going to be working and the hours you do, taking into consideration if you'll be travelling in rush hour. If it's a long commute - think long term and if you'd be able to do it every day. For me personally, that ruled out some areas, because I didn't want a long commute, as initially I was working shifts and nights, so didn't want to an hours drive late at night or after a night shift when I was really tired. As hubby and I both work, we also took into consideration how long it would take us to get to school if we got the dreaded phone call that the kids were sick and had to be picked up because of illness. Guest sally-24
hi David, my son and I visited in august for a look- see. I hired a car and just drove around the areas close to where i hope to work. new developments have advertising boards up inviting you to go and look at properties, and some homes that are for sale have open days, where you can just go in and look around. found this a good way of getting info out of the estate agents, such as proximity to shops, schools ect. gives you the chance to get a feel for the area. the website reiwa. is very good for searching available properties too, good luck and enjoy your trip, sally. Guest brydenbunch
We live in Quinns Rocks, a great place, Jindalee, Mindarie, Clarkson nice areas to live too. We used www. holidaylettings.co.uk and checked out loads of rentals before we arrived (8 weeks ago) still in ours now, but move to our house in 4 weeks. Clarks is only a 5 minute drive from Quinns, and has the main shopping mall, train station etc... If you want to be near the beach, then Quinns, or old Quinns is nice, Mindarie is fab near the marina too, further south Ocean Reef and Burns Beach is nice too. Clarkson is West of Marmion Avenue so not near the beach. Get yourself from Amazon a UBD, it is our equivalent to the A-z, gives you all the road names and areas onmaps, so you can find your way around real easily. Hope it helps, if you want to meet up in Oct give us a call 0488 070433.

Guest vik, john&milly
we have just returned to perth after 10yrs and have a 457 visa.when we were first here in 98 we stayed at coolibah lodge ,brisbane street ,northbridge.we had a walk round the other day and it is still there! we had the best time as it is lively at night and close to the city, and train line .staying in a backpackers is ideal as you get to meet some good people(some of which we are still in touch with now). we have come back as proper adults with a 3yr old and really looking forward to a better lifestyle.Good luck with your trip you'll love it. Guest The.Colebecks
Hello & Welcome to Poms in Perth We visited Perth in July for a reccie and to validate our visas and loved it . Even having visited, to be able to advise people on areas is practically impossible because you have to see them for yourself and make your own decision on this, not on other people's views. We had a whole list of areas to visit which were recommended to us by other people but once we went and had a look around we found that our views on what we would consider an 'ideal' area were totally different to theirs!! One good thing about doing the reccie was that we were able to visit all the areas we had in mind and discount the ones we didn't like. Now, straight away when we make the final move, we will be able to concentrate on looking for houses in the areas we really liked, and that will save us a heap of time and effort at a time when things will be hectic enough! Have a great trip. Kind regards Karen & Co Need a C.V. Written or Modified? I can help, click here for details
