Guest moving soon & nervous
Hi Less than 2 weeks to go and now very very nervous..........Looking for some advise as we are unsure about a laptop. We are leaving our PC in the UK when we come and planned on buying a laptop when we arrive, now I'm thinking should we buy before we leave the UK (saves down loading all the data to up load on new PC?). Any thoughts suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks J

Thanks J I have found that electrical (technology)| goods here can be very out of date (you need to be very clued up on what you are looking at) and about 30% more expensive. I would get what you need in the UK, it will be more upto date, you will have more choice, you will get better advice from the shop and it will probably be a lot cheaper. Guest Kym_and_James
Have a look on www.dell.com.au. I bought my laptop there and I'm very pleased with it. Can't compare to UK though as I never bought a PC there.
Guest Sunflower
We took a new laptop from UK in our hand luggage when we moved, which was invaluable in the first few days as we set up a dial-up connection on phone line to tide us over and it was invaluable being able to at least go online to the bank and check rental properties etc... Thanks J I seriously recommend you buy before you go as you get a hell of alot more money in the UK for a laptop then you do in Australia Chris

Guest brits2oz
I know this is an old thread but thought I would add our experience. We bought a brand new laptop to bring in our hand luggage from PC World in the UK. Good deal, however, if you buy from UK and take to another country your 12 months guarantee is void! We bought a HP laptop and low and behold something went wrong with it within 7 months - and can we get a new part under gurantee from Hewlett Packard - NO!!! Just something to bear in mind.
