Hi, I usually chat on Poms In Oz but thought I'd talk specifically to those people moving to or living in Perth.

We're planning a move to Perth and are currently on a fact-finding mission to gather every last scrap of info we can.

We're ready to book our reccy (once the flight is released) and can't wait to see what Perth's like for our own eyes!

Looking forward to talking to you all!

Jo

:D Hi,

I have read a few messages on other forums with regards to Perth & people say that it is the most remote place in OZ to live IS THIS TRUE ??

My friend used to live their for a long time & always told me that if I ever want to live in OZ then Perth is the best place to live IT'S JUST WONDERFUL she would say.

Myself & my hubby are saving up to go on our reccy too hopefully sometime next year as we have never been that far away in the world so we want to check it out too as we would very much like to live out there.

All the best in your hunt for info & it would be great if you could post some of what you find on here so we can all have a gander at it.

Regards,

Alison. :D

It always makes me smile when people say Perth is remote and isolated and make it sound as if we're cut off from civilisation lol. WA is very laid back and very vast, Having visited Brisbane and Sydney, we decided that they were great places for holidays but didn't give us that "I want to live here" feeling. Perth seems to be a love it or hate it place ... it doesn't have the 'busy feel' that the east coast has. Flights over East aren't cheap and it will be cheaper for you to fly to Bali for example for your hols. We're glad we chose Perth ... I actually like the fact that we're not as populated as the eastern states and that there's a lot of space here.

Hi Hays,

We did think Adelaide before Perth but there were some environmental issues to were unhappy about so then we targeted Perth. Everything I've read about it and heard from people leads me to believe it's a good place for families and British ones at that. One of the parents in my daughters school is over here from Perth and she can't wait to go back home. She says is wonderful. It's less populated than anywhere else (apart from the outback!). It's closer to Indonesia than it's Aussie neighbours so I guess if you take that into consideration it is isolated. If yr going to the other side of the world, it's to get away from massively highly populated areas, not to be in the same again. We're planning our reccy for Christmas 09. Ages away I know but gives us plenty of time to be really ready. We want our 3, nearly 4 yr old to get something from it too and she'll be 5 then. Where are you in the process yourself? Where are you in the UK?

Hi,

we are the Denham family from Essex.

We are moving to perth early next year, between april - june 09. We went to Perth in may for a 'rekkie' holiday and LOVED IT!!!!!!!

However,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The house prices are on the rise and the wages were less then the uk. A weekly food shop total was the same as in the Uk but recreational stuff was cheaper!! And as children don't start 'full-time' school untill 5yrs, childcare would be a big problem.

My husband has been doing ALOT of reasearch into other areas in OZ and has found that Adelaide and brisbane is cheaper to live! wow....... Now I have no idea where we will end up!!!!

Help, as i loved Perth but who knows?

Thanks

Michelle

Hi Michelle,

I've not been yet but we're booking our reccy as soon as the flights are released. From what I've heard, seen, read, Perth is the best place for families. It's appears to be quieter and safer than the others. You have to go with yr gutt instinct. If you felt safe there and there's work for you then go for Perth. That's my opinion anyway!

Hi everyone.

Been living in Perth for 7 months now with my 3 yr old daughter. Have found it definatly more geared for families with lots of free/cheap recreational places to go.

Seems to be alot of Brits living around the joondalup or rockingham area, im currently quite clse to the CBD-about 10 mins west. I definatly dont feel cut off or remote at all living in Perth, its still a huge place with alot to offer. I have travelled the east coast and definatly prefer perth.
