Hi all,

Currently live in essex. As everyone knows the property market in the UK is at a 'stupid' high level. Have heard that the Perth housing market is also going up & up & up! But does it look like it's slowing down at all?? Would ideally like to get a 4 bedded property for about £250 -300,000, of which we have also accounted for the high stamp duty! But is this realistic or merely a dream?

We will be arriving in Perth between april - june 09................ Any help on the situation will be greatly appreciated!

THANKS

Hello, you will not get a 4 bed home anywhere nice or anywhere at all for $250,000 the market here is still very high although it is starting to fall slightly and interest rates went down 0.25% for the first time in 7 years this month! If you PR's and first homebuyers you will NOT have to pay stamp duty, also you can apply for government grants totalling $9000 to help you with the purchase (First home buyers assistance grant $7000 & REBA assistance fund $2000)

The only way you will get a 4 bed home for $300,000 is if you buy a plot of land and build yourself, which will depend on if you can afford to pay rent and mortgage if needed? whilst your house is being built!

Don't expect the weather to be nice if you come June it's one of the wet months!!!

Hope this helps

Thanks for your help,

Sorry, my budget was in UK £ Not OZ $. So infact our budget would be anything between $400 - 600,000. Do you recommend any good, bad, value areas!

Thanks

Hi well like most things it's personal choice, and where you need to be near for work, family etc, most suburbs as in u.k. have good and bad areas, We live North of the River, in Clarkson which we think is a good place for us, near lots of great beaches, shops etc and about 30-40 minutes from the city center. Lots of Brits up here in fact its little Britain to be honest.

We recently bought a 4 bed 2 bath house here for $350,00 although 2 minutes up the road in Mindarie some houses cost a $1,000,000+

Did you have any ares in mind?

Hello & Welcome to Perth Poms :D

If you keep an eye on the real estate sites you will see that places are coming up with 'reduced' prices all the time these days.

We visited Perth in July and it seemed that they are about 6 months behind us in the economic decline. Hopefully this continues until we get there!!!

Good luck with everything.

Kind regards

Hi there, we have just bought a 4 bed house with a study, 2 bathrooms and a pool on a 759sqm block for $440000. When we came over in March to do a reccy, there were a lot of properties on the market. When we came back over to live in July/August, the same houses were still on the Market! So you can grab a bargain if you are prepared to do a lot of searching. If you need any help on different suburbs, I think I must have visited all of them (well a lot of them anyway) so may be able to help. We are south of the river in Parkwood, which is also on a direct bus route for the city if you need to get there for work. Good luck - Julie

i'd think very carefully before commiting to here . having been back to uk recently , the orice of living here is very similar to uk . the advantages of living here , cheap have gone. Perth is a very sleepy boring place .there's no community, no herirage , character or culture. It's very superficial and materialistic . teenege susicide is one of the highest rates in Perth in then world. i personally would move back to uk tomorrow and know a lot of people who are currently doing so. on the flip side if you like the beach and heat you'll find not many beaches better.

Don't want to put you off but think it only fair to tell new people the reality of it .

take care .

I totaly agree why do people have to think they are doing you a favour by these down in the dump post. Telling the neg & pos is quite right but giving people your image of the place when you are down or just dont like the place for your own personal reason is wrong.

You are right, I have made the mistake before, posting in a down mood and been told of by Andy! However, I do feel a little for the posters on here who truly believe they are coming to paradise. It may be helpful to have a little more open and honest discussion? I would not discourage anyone for making the leap as for some it is fantastic, all I would say is keep one eye on the fact that you may wish to return home and should consider not burning all of your bridges, financially or otherwise.

Thankyou to those of you who have sent me private messages in support of my comments . It is a shame more people can't be honest and open on here and say the truth or give an opinion from both sides without being called negative. cheesr .
