I have booked and signed with a shipping agent

I was told I had nothing to pay upfront

I told them I needed to store in uk for A few months and ship over later

again i asked and agian they said no payment till it was shipped.

I signed a form and today they tell me I have to pay all the money which I do not have

I would not have signed a form with them i would have left it in my garage

Help advice needed please

I'm sure we paid when our belongings were collected by the company, then there was something to pay at this end (quarantine fees or something) at this end. I would have thought this was right, because if you haven't paid then your belongings won't be insured?

You'd probably best speak directly to the company if they told you that you didn't have to pay.

Have you got a copy of the document you have signed, how long after you signed did they request payment? Have you spoken to trading standards? Is it a big well known company?

Hi there,

once you have signed your agreement to your moving company, you are required to pay a deposit, as this is needed either as insurance, booking your slot on the ship, we only had to pay £500, sent with your signed documents, shipping list, insurance list etc. also you will not receive your things back until you have paid your bill in full, before your ship arrives in port, also you pay your quarantine costs before inspection. Moving from one country to one so far away is an expensive job. Im sure you have already worked this out.

But i asked them this before and they said no i did not have to

as a different shipping company asked me for a small amount upfront and thats why i decided to go with this xxxxxxxxxx shipping company beacuse they needed no money upfront

I am not stupid and i know what they said to me

As for the insurance i had not decided what to insure as i have lots of stuff for sale

yes i do know about the expensive cost of moving.

look at the document you signed, I am surprised they took your stuff then asked for payment later not at that time of signing, you need see the agreement you have signed. you should have a copy? if you think they gave wrong information call trading standards, if they have done this to you I am sure you won't be the first they have done it to

  • 3 weeks later...

I think lesson here is research dont accept verbal quote and ask all fees are included, i would guess some companies do this, others do not and so look to give a better deal? Infact they may actually workout more expensive when hidden extras are added later.
