Skippy59, please write a bit about yourself, would like to know about new people and what they do. I am Levi, 26, economist by trade, still in Europe - but planning (long term) to move to Perth.

    Cheers

I have`nt been in here for a few months , but I do keep reading your posts and also the WestAustralian, our daily paper.... so I saw on the news last night an article about this company looking for employees. Now I dont know whether they also sponsor immigrants, but others from this site might be able to help you by asking the company named on your behalf. I have cut n pasted it as it appears on the above named paper, as is.. if it helps.... if not at least I have all your interests at heart... cheers

A local contractor is employing three tradespeople an hour in a bid to fill 600 vacancies by Christmas, in the first stage of a campaign to find thousands of workers.

CKJV, a joint venture between Kentz Corporation and energy infrastructure company CB&I, announced yesterday it needed 600 scaffolders, welders, fitters, riggers, trade assistants and others within weeks. Another 2000 jobs will be offered early next year.

CKJV construction director John Guyer said he recognised the difficulty in finding qualified tradespeople, but was confident a roadshow to regional areas, and potentially the east coast, would fill the order.

The campaign will put more pressure on the home building sector, after warnings this week that construction times will double in a year because of the looming labour shortage that is shaping up to be the sector's worst.

Builders this week reiterated a longstanding complaint that the resources sector poaches its workers and fails to do its share of training.

Half of CKJV's recruits will work at the Henderson workshop, grossing about $2500 a week for mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation work on three LNG trains destined for the Gorgon project on Barrow Island, as part of its $2.2 billion contract with Chevron.

The rest will earn up to 40 per cent more on a fly-in, fly-out roster to Barrow Island.

Mr Guyer said there were 18 apprentices with CKJV, which had just employed its 1000th worker, and up to a dozen more would be recruited in the first stage of its campaign. He hopes it will eventually have up to 200 apprentices.

Asked yesterday whether he was concerned that the resources sector was absorbing workers needed in other industries, Commerce Minister Simon O'Brien said he was aware that other sectors were "doing it tough".

But he said the strong resources sector was ultimately "a bright point on the WA landscape".

A local content report released yesterday shows the resources sector has awarded $30 billion in contracts locally since July last year, resulting in 75,000 jobs in WA.

I realize alot of you arent really looking for Fly-in fly out jobs, but if all these people the company are looking for leave their current jobs to sign up with them, their employers will also be looking for replacement...s so there is method in my madness.

Anyone know of anyone who's willing to take on an electrician or electrical engineer with 12 years experience but will only have a provisional license? My hubby needs on-the-job training to get his A grade.

    Thanks

Hi, I moved to Perth a short time ago. I'm a plumber by trade in the UK, and looking for work here in perth. I've phoned up and sent cvs to quite a few company's, but still no joy. I'm happy to start as a TA untill I gain my plumbing licence which I can not do untill march 31st at challenger college. If anyone on here knows of any TA work or can point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.

    Many thanks

    Scott.

Just thought I'd add my two bit - In my opinion there might be potential for tradies who are professional in terms of keeping to agreed appointments, letting people know if they can't, communicating properly (quotes on time, about delays if any, if not interested or when things can be expected). We've been here for a while now and are still getting our heads around the unprofessional behaviour of tradies who do just the opposite... Quality seems to be an issue too with building work, plumbing, electrical etc generally not up to the mark. People do seem to want more professional people but just don't get them - opportunity as I see it.
