Guest Tranterfamily
Does WA have anything like Ofsted in UK where you can look to see how the public primary schools are performing. Is there also a league table on schools? I am trying to frind the best schools for our children, to then try to find work for the OH and then find out where we can live. Scot01
WA has the NAPLAN tests - similar to SATS, in Year 3,5,7,9. These are National test, not just for WA. Schools have to report their scores. If you go to http://www.myschool.edu.au/ and type in a suburb, it will come up with schools in that area - both govt and private. The easiest way to understand the results is to look at the graph that says results in numbers. green means the school is performing above the National average, red below, dark red significantly below so ideally you want a school that is all green. Other things that may be of interest - attendance rates. Anything less than 95% would be a bit worrying. I have a friend who works at Balga Primary, one of the rougher suburbs in Perth. They are doing wonderful things at the school and she loves it there. If you look at the stats you can see that 20% are aboriginal, 44% have English as a second language ( big Sudanese population). 59% are in the lowest income bracket, 9% non attendance rate, everything below average. If your children are in high school then it shows the number of kids going on to University - not all schools have this but some do. Obviously the higher the % the more academic the school. Attendance rates are important - my son's school that he has loved has 99% attendance - the kids love being there and want to attend, they are not disheartened and opting out by truanting. I've just looked at Rossmoyne, one of the top govt high schools - 95% attendance, 78% go to Uni, NAPLAN all dark green. The other thing you can look at for high schools is the school comparison stats on Year 12 results. It lists the top 50 schools each year, and which schools did the best in certain subjects - http://www.curriculum.wa.edu.au/internet/Publications/Reports/Statistical_Reports/School_Comparison_Statistics
Guest Tranterfamily
Thank you so much, I can't tell you how valuable this info is. I found the website for all the schools last night and went onto a report for a school and I was none the wiser with so many graphs, reports and statistics. At least with your info I know exactly what to look for. Thank you once again.
