We went to Kalgoorlie by train in November. It was a no stress way of getting there - takes around 7 hours each way. There is a buffet car and they do show some films... It wasn't too expensive.

Kalgoorlie is relatively compact so we didn't hire a car - although I would also recommend that to get further afield. We went on the Big Pit trip that goes around 9.30am daily. It was well worth it - but do book in advance as there are only about 16 places. The museum was also interesting.

Hope you enjoy your trip!

Wendy

Hi again,

Kalgoorlie is a bit spread out - there are places to stay fairly close to town and the station - but make sure you look up on the map before you book. There are tours from the centre of town to the Big Pit or the Big Pit Lookout. I would check on the tourist website before you go, and make sure you know what's included.

Just to let you know that the tourist information office was closed on Saturday afternoon when we were there (just as we got to town on the train) and closed on Sunday as well - so don't rely on them if you're going for a weekend!

Other than that - we did quite a bit of walking - and really enjoyed our weekend... Wendy
