Hi

As a once proud immigrant to Perth in 1986 and a immigrant to Cambodia in 2008

I would advice people of thinking of moving to the police state not to

over run by dull people and excessive cost

slowly following the P/Correct agenda

Still no new stadium and yet another artist vision of the foreshore project in the Worst Australian newspaper

Come to Cambodia the land of the free !

I have yet to live in Cambodia so interested to hear from people who have.

My experience, i had to visit a chinese hospital to learn that my arm had been painful for 20 years because it was broken.

I can walk into a thai hospital and pay $30 for a full medical. Instant service and excellent care.

I can also walk around any major city in the world and see homeless people.

Everywhere people complain about tax and in the same breath want better facilities.

The safest place i ever lived, china without any question, agree no free speech but also a lot safer for law abiding people.

How define 3rd world???? Usa? Richest country in the world, land of the free, read the newspaper and see how safe.

Everywhere is interesting, good points and bad points, perth is ok for me, yes expensive and i would not wander around alone at night, but hay ho good and bad.

Police state is a bit strong, nanny state same as most western countries i think is a better term,.

Pc brigade well same everywhere bugger off and let us live.

See interesting.

Brains, 1986 to Perth and 2008 to Cambodia...! Does it mean that you lived in Perth for 22 years ? Or you went back to UK and migrated to Cambodia again ? Let us know how many years you lived in Perth to decide that it is not suitable for you. If it is 20 odd years, then that is very long and we would certainly like to hear from you. I would advice people who are commenting about third world asia to check the facts. Cities like Singapore, Hongkong, Shangai etc are great place to live and Asia is currently booming in the economy and all of us know what happens in developed western countries like US or UK or even Australia. So please keep a broader mind before commenting about other places in the World. Having said that, my short visit to Perth have proved to be a great experience and I'm certainly looking forward moving there particularly to enjoy the calm (or so called dull) life style. But if someone is not interested in that and have other opinions, I would still like to hear them.

The issue here, like it or laothe it, there are some facts in the points noted. Over run by excessive cost - IMO true - greed is everywhere. Slowly following the p/c agenda - IMO true - example is not that long ago you could park your car by the road with a for sale sign on it and now you get a ticket for doing that. This was a Perth (Aussie) way and now the no faces have stopped you doing it. Still no new stadium - IMO true - one reason why Australia never got the World Cup was because some of the stadia were not up to spec and there was no plan of action for Perth for a new one to fit the bill. They are sport mad here and it has taken 10 years plus of talking to even get to the stage we are at now. Worst Australian Newspaper - come on it is a shocker!!

It is hard for a lot of folk to accept that other views are valid. Perth was a great place but now it is a good place. Better than many places but definately not the best. And before anyone has a go this is only my view. I am sure that others think this place is the dogs wotsits. But remember this - it is what other things you have done in your life that forms your views especially as you get older and gain more experience. If you have simply left a run down inner city or drab suburb in some massive connurbation then when you come and live here you will think you are in heaven. If however your experiences are wider then may be this city, and all it stands for currently (the $) are not all it is cracked up to what it is supposed to be.

Only a view. However I am not sure if I was to jump ship that Cambodia would be on the short list. Does it even have plumbing?

I recognise that Peth and WA has changed over the years, certainly in the relatively short time that we've been here, I guess my problem is with the OP's tone of post rather than it's content. If I was coming to Perth now, would I want to be told to live in Cambodia ... probably not ... however, I would (as I did then), appreciate some balanced views in order to have some idea what to expect. Wether we as a family then made the move successful or not would be down to ourselves and not someone else telling us how to do it.
