Guest Chanel_Elizabeth
Hello I am new to this site but am desperate for some advice, I am 22 and my family have recently moved to Perth I was unable to go on their visa due to being in full time employment and classed as 'independant' even though I still lived at home So... I started my Nursing degree in September so I could get the qualifications to move out there but I still have 2 and a half years left!!! I have just cme back from visiting Perth and being back in the UK has made me realise how much I need to be out there with my family etc. So I am now considering giving up my degree and moving out there on possibly a working holiday visa but am very worried that I will not find a job that can offer me sponsorship as my main work experience is in Administration touching on some HR, Accounts and Customer Service (although no extensive experience in these areas) Does anyone know how likely it is to find a job including sponsorship just within Administration? Any advice would be great as I am desperate to get out there, the thought of having to stay here for another 2 and a half years is terrfying! However I am very worried that I will give up a place on my course to come out there and end up having to return to the UK when my visa runs out! portlaunay
Hi and welcome to PP. I'll start by saying I'm no expert and there will be others who may have different opinions but hopefully you'll get a balanced view. I think the chances of you finding sponsorship for an admin role, regardless of work ethic, experience or qualification, is extremely slim. Remember sponsored employment is meant to be reserved for businesses unable to recruit locally, not to offer to any candidate for any role. You might find work of this type on a working holiday visa but that will only allow you to stay temporarily, just enough time in fact to settle back with your family, begin to make plans and plant roots and then you'll have the upheaval of moving back to the UK. Nursing is one of those careers in which there is great demand here; many nurses are recruited from overseas, initially on temporary visa'a but are then able to apply for PR. If I were you, I'd stick with nursing though a couple of things concern me - that you imply you're only doing this to obtain a visa to come out here and that the qualification alone is unlikely to get you a job, you're going to have to get a reasonable amount of experience in clinical practice too. Taking up nursing for the wrong reasons does beg the question about what sort of nurse you'll be and what sort of references will you have when you need them for your visa or jobs over here? I know it seems like a long time but if nursing is a genuine career choice for you I'd be setting myself a 5 year goal; qualification, experience, specialism and do that knowing that I get to take a holiday every now and then to see my family. It will fly by. Tough decisions that only you can make I'm afraid.
verystormy
I would echo what Portlaunay has said. The chances of gaining sponsorship are effectivly nil. Not only is an employer not going to take you, but your job title must be on the SOL or CSOL lists and i dont think your job would be. Guest Chanel_Elizabeth
Thank you for the info I expected that this would be the case... and don't get me wrong I am absolutely loving my nurse training and feel like its the first thing since leaving school I am good at, interested in and enjoy I am just desperate to be over with my family (and the sunshine haha) but looks like I'll have to stick with what my head was telling me to do... 2 years and counting!! xx
portlaunay
That's great to hear, nursing is an amazing career choice, glad to hear you like it. 2014 sees Fiona Stanley open, a $2bn, state of the art hospital and then a couple of years after that, the new children's hospital. There will be great demand for nurses here so knuckle down, enjoy it and form a plan. You'll be here before you know it. Good luck with your course.
