  1. Well hello again PP's

last time one I was on here. We were just returning from our 2nd "reccie" trip to WA and I was being slightly unfair to some parts of the Aus culture. Most things in my mind do stand but hey ho.

A little background: I run a small AC and refrigeration company and along with the wife and our little boy we decided to holiday to Perth and maybe look at emigrating.

First visit,we stayed in Hillarys for 3 weeks and absolutely fell in love with the place, the scenery the people the lifestyle and came back to the UK with a real desire to upsticks and move 9000 miles.

We set things in motion, sold our house and put the money in the bank ready for moving, sorted skills assessment for my trade and done my IELTS twice to get where I needed to be. Worked out where we wanted to live and stayed in rented, with the plan to sell the business and take another years dividends from it to help with all the finances etc.

We decided to get married in November last year on our boys second birthday and to treat ourselves as a honeymoon/fact finding mission back in WA. This time we stayed in Mandurah so we could have a good luck around SOR to compare house prices and living costs etc. We flew business class as a treat and again loved it.

Then the doubts started to set in.......we have a great life in the UK,we are happy here, have loads of great friends and family. Along with a good business allowing my partner to not have to work. We drive nice cars, have great holidays anywhere we want go to in the world.

I have worked very hard for the last 10 years to build my life, business and most importantly family. Did we really want to give all this up !?!? Spend a fortune on getting over to Aus to have to start again.....we would be buying a poorly constructed house along with a thousand others on some estate near the ocean. Great whilst you are working. My partner would have to return to work,I would have to start some 20 years behind where I was......and we would always be immigrants!

But,we loved the sunshine, the picture of us having a BBQ on the beach all alone will always be one of our most treasured. But,we were alone, very alone. Great as 40 degrees is for a few weeks holiday. Could I cope with it all the time or spend time indoors avoiding it?

Anyways, fast forward 7 months or so. We now live in a beautiful house,we have green fields behind us,loads of room for the little one and the dog to play safely. We have never locked a door, let alone a car. We have a great circle of friends around us and have so far had a lovely summer with friends and family. BBQ's even!

Do we miss Aus? yeh sometimes. Do we regret not making the move ? Not a chance. Sorry folks, really glad we had the experience but life's too good for us here and there are many many places we want to do and see before we get financially tied down and stuck somewhere.

This post is just another point, not to some an agreeable one. But,for us we are happy we stayed

    good luck

  2. Oh dear my post and thread content has been hijacked one I may add of which I take seriously and am very passionate about. Reason I have a very large powerful dog who in real life is a sweetheart a big softie. Some would class as a dangerous dog due to bad publicity and lack of knowledge of the breed. Yes I advocate for the breed as much as I possibly can and make no bones about it. Big thank yous to those for putting a downer on something which from my perspective I take as very serious. I just hope one day that a serious incident that I will stress will not be my fault or my dog's ever happen as a result of a "latte sweetie" and her dog/dogs will cause. Mark my words it will happen one day maybe not with me and my dog but with some other person and their pet. Oh silly me I believe it already has VS little one was on the receiving end of a large dog not under control unlike mine!

All I tried to do is forewarn of the dangers of unleashed dogs not under control of their bad owners

Oh ps I have played nicely VS

    ::cough:: for a change :cute:

Elfie, good luck with your dog and enjoy her as they are a great, but so mis understood breed. I'm out,for me Mr "go Matilda" and the latte people along with the selective editing are hilarious. I'm in Mandurah until Sunday lunch........go on show your faces  pm me latte people don't hide behind a website.

  3. Just followed another example of Aussie loving and caring attitude towards their animals.

A "ute" with a dog either side in the open back, one tethered with a lead to the side of the "truck" the other tied to it with a chain. Flouncing around all over the back when going around traffic islands etc, could only imagine the tangled mess if they were hit by another vehicle or an emergency stop!

and before mumsnet get over excited,it was definately an OZ bloke driving as he had one of the spectaclur 80's mullets that you all love.......

  4. It will be a shame @7cdb if you don't give it a go, you've gone this far and could be your chance. Maybe think of it like us, we definitely want to give it a year out there and then hopefully two, we will then reassess the situation and see want we want. Think of the experience your lad may get even if it means not having the lavish lifestyle and your wife having to work.

It's your way of not buying us a beer.

Did someone mention beer............I was paying 7 quid a pint on Sunday! Wtf £7!!!

You are totally right, but maybe too old to change ? Who knows.......

anyhows hows the little one ?

  5. yeah i know youre a wind up merchant but forgive me for being a bit sensitive at the moment as its my family and not just me.

I know what you mean about the prices for dirt, i wished it was dirt then things might grow, but its sand, which makes it worse! Wasn't there a song when we were kids at school that went 'foolish man bult his house upon the sand...wise man built his house upon the rocks'?? or am i being forgetfull in my old age!?

Yeah we have the same thing with work too. my days off wife works, so as beautiful as the place may be, time to see it is at a premium. I had a good job in Uk with big prospects, but my sense of adventure took over my brain cell (s) and bought us out here. Wished my other brain cell was not pickled in Boddingtons that day...

Friday brings whatever. Have you seen the new Qantas add? 'welcome home and bringing you home' in the slogan... Ironic as they will be flying me business class back to UK.

Mate,we make these decisions with the best of intentions. Business class is fun tho'!

    Like I've said good luck

  6. How can you make such a general assumption about Australians as animal owners? Your comment is on a par with saying that all English people are vegetarian!!!!

Most people wherever they come from, if they are animal lovers, have a good knowledge of animals and how to look after them. The issue is that there is a small amount of animal owners who are ignorant, whatever their nationality and wherever they live ... and this is the point that Elfie and I are making.

Relax a little,it's just an opinion

  7. i'll keep whinging mate, now i have something to whinge about!

Unfortunatley, the kids school life will be messed up for two years. Missed deadline to get them in for 2015 start, so will be 2016 till they get in the local school. Something else to whinge about!

As you know it's only a pisstake:wink:You're a realist and tell it like it is and not PP/mumsnet. You will sort it,as you will look after the family.

Yeh,we are in Mandurah, been here a couple of weeks. Had a good look around and been back up NOR again today. Nice thunderstorm all the way back and 2 1/2 hrs from Jindelee beech!!! I am not paying $450,000 for a half decent plot of land. We only need a small 3x2 and it would be approx $250,000 all in with everything we need. But 450k for a plot of dirt "near" the beech is a windup.

We are going to have a look at 1 yr old houses that are all completed later tonight on the web when little man is in bed. Then tomorrow have a look at some land deals SOR

Love the country, love the lifestyles and the attitude of the people. But,and a big but! We have a great life in the UK,wife doesn't have to work,I'm my own boss with a small mortgage and a big house. Here we would both have to work and we would have a large mortgage and a smaller house...........decisions decisions. It's been a worthwhile 2nd reccie now for the decision.

    good luck on Friday.

  8. After seeing Doctor + waiting time from 19.30-midnight (oh and Erin spewing up all over my wife's clothes at reception) we were finally sent up to Paediatric ward as the Doctor was concerned about high heart rate. They did one or two things and also gave her some medication which brought temp & high heart rate down eventually. We were finally sent home at 4.30, got to bed at 5 then we were woken up at 6 with her throwing up all over cot. After that managed to grab a few hours kip but now feel pants. We were told if it happens again in the next 72 hours we would be fast tracked through the system. We get a bit worried with the high temp as my Nephew started fitting as a result of that last year.

    Thanks all for comments.

Keefo, she will be good mate. Try not to worry too much (easy for me to say eh!) our little man has been ill since bloody August off and on,constant coughing and chest infections. Now told after numerous Doctors visits that he may have to have his tonsils out.

just wip them out ffs! They are very resilient little buggers tho',we worry ourselves all the time but he just carries on. He has even managed to give us both a nice cough and cold, bless him.

    good luck

  9. Sat in A&E with our 14 month old daughter who has temp over 40 and heart rate of 212. She had her 12 month immunisations last Monday so could be connected but doctor not willing to say that. Now in a room waiting for a Paediatrician to come and look to see if they are happy to send her home with such a high heart rate. One doctor on duty tonight in children's A&E!.

Good luck with the little one Keefo, they worry you to death don't they !

  10. So you have spent a few weeks over here and you know about Aussie dog owners and their dogs. Seriously!!!

Just a personal observation, from making a point of talking to as many dog owners as I can. It costs a small fortune to bring a dog over here. So would love to learn more from people.

Seriously!!! :biglaugh: That is sooooo American

  11. People,I don't know much, but I know about dogs and whilst on 2nd reccie over hear in the hot place  I have really taken a good observation of dogs and their owners as we would be bringing our Pointer with us.

1,Ozzies are not very bright with dogs

2,Dogs over here are treated as animals in the main not as pets

3,They seem to enjoy their animals, but would never take advice on how to care for them

Elfie, you know about dogs, you get dogs, but as you also know. Most people haven't got a clue, please remember that.

  12. Good luck with it all I imagine it's exactly how I'll feel in a few months. I hope it all works out for you this time xxx

This is is the thing, nobody can tell you any different. Many will dismiss your upheaval as madness, but you know how you feel and feelings are what make people tick. Do what's right for your lot and good luck with it.

  13. Congrats @7cdb on your marriage....lock up your wives he's coming to Perth ha ha.

I hope you end up making the move mate.

Ello Keefo,he will be 2 on Friday (hence married on same day,to prevent some dozy get forgetting :wideeyed:)
