  1. Thanks Debs for your message.

Makes me feel a bit better and yes life experience we have and it's a advantage. I mean as far as I look at it I wouldn't put myself through this at my age if I wasn't committed and if it wasn't something I have dreamed about doing.

Definitely will pick your brain closer to the time though ? xx

  2. I still haven't had my gcse situation clarified because I got a D grade in school but in 2008 I did key skills 2 numeracy at got a certificate. One reply came back saying as it was over 5 years old it was void and wouldn't count as a entry certificate but the next reply I had from another lady from the admissions team was it would be accepted so I sent another email stating first and could they clarify. Also didn't understand it because a gcse would be accepted if I had gained a C grade in 2002 however the one gained in 2008 wouldn't be.... so confusing... I got a further x5 C grade gcse's and with the access course and voluntary work will be looked at favourably for a place. Hopefully if I get declined I don't know what I will do cause nursing and the Australian dream is over then ?

Bloody hell your doing loads too and don't worry I bet your children know why your doing it and you'll all be better off in a few years time.

I am a little sad to think in just 4 weeks my youngest I am not going to see for 4 days a week ? x

  3. Hey

I am a bit of a organisation freak lol I have already started on my personnel statement ? and started volunteering last week at a local care home. I am doing one day a week and have a interview with the NHS to do voluntary work in the wards there on a Sunday morning on the 6th march....also on top of a 3 day part time job and two nights at college come September....hope I can do it!! Eek!!

How old are your children? I have two girls ages 4 years and 7 months and my husband is in the property maintenance trade for 9 years we were going to go down this route with him doing a AQF level 3 Cert first but we were not 100% sure we would of been successful so decided I could take time off work and focus on this and then if we end up migrating good if not we would be better off because I really have wanted to be a nurse for ages. So the dream has been delayed by 4 years but should just snip in there at 32 years old before we lose points at turning 33.

So a reccie trip is to scope out the area in terms of work/school and area etc. Xx

  4. Thanks I will definitely be asking for help haha! Feel over welded and keep thinking to myself that I will never be able to do it but that's self doubt for you. Just got to keep thinking I can ?

Sorry is the second intake of march for Chester or keele? I kept thinking I would never be able to compete with the 18 year old fresh out of college but have been told by several different people that the average age of nursing students is 29 onwards. So I will be 29 when I start so hoping that's a good sign haha.

I keep hearing about reccie. ...what is this?

Our friends moving back over to oz who have PR visas (yes they are ping pongers haha) so they have invited us for holiday and when we hopefully arrive a place to stay whilst looking for rentals etc so that would be good x

  5. Hi Sarah

Yes not too far are u going to Chester uni? Yes I will be going to Keele (hopefully) and I had a brief look online but I read it as in it was in the 3rd year but as soon as I start I will look into the placement and get the ball rolling. Organisation and enthusiasm may get us that little bit further because I know spaces are limited and priority given to Australian residents of course.

So do u have a place in the uni? I guess u would of submitted interest through ucas for academic year sept2014?

Same here my kids mean the world and wouldn't want to be apart from them but sometimes you need to look at the bigger picture because financially if we can afford to fund it (visas/insurance/accommodation etc) it would be silly to rule it out just yet. Would like to keep the option open and it's there if I choose to go if not then all wouldn't be lost however have been reading stories on here about during the placement being in the last year the student has been told once fully qualified there is a place there for them in that hospital on a 457 visa and subsequent sponsored perm resident visa after a time frame.

Ideal situation is to have a job set up for when you get there of course so it will be weighing up the pro and con's of it all.

I think your doing the right thing in getting things organised as early as possible

    Laura xx

  6. Hi Sarah

I am just slightly behind you on this. I will be starting Access Course in September and fingers crossed should be starting nursing degree sept 2015.

I have always wanted to do it and want to move to Australia so It will be the best of both worlds I say ?

I would be interested in keeping in touch about what you do in regards to your elective placement. I think my local uni is in the third year but with a husband and two children it would be a bit more challenging for me to do a placement in Australia however I really believe it could open up doors for us and with it going on my CV would be an advantage.

How would you work this with a family of your own ? Go alone and think of it as necessary for your Australian dream or can you take your whole family too? Not sure how long the elective placement is for also?

    Xxx

  7. 4 year temp visa you an apply for PR after 2 years if you meet the requirements. My siste r live s in perth so she is sponsoring us for which we get n extra 10 points. The 189 is a better option but not sure hubby will get the score needed in ielts so I'm thinking the 489 FS is going to be the preferred option. Yes we are heading to perth but WA removed solid plasterer from their csol so you can't gt state sponsorship for this occupation! My sister emigrated 3 years ago and it was lst easier then everything has got so much tougher - or that's how it seems. My brother also emigrated 8 years ago and it was a walk in the park then! Left it too late. I hardly slept last night thinking about how we may miss the boat!!

Ooh no I am so sorry if I have got you all worried. ?

Yes it does seem tough and a lot of work just hoping that it will be worth it in the long run like I think it will be.

We have friends going back to Clarkson so will follow them there to begin with which will help with the transition period.

  8. Yes definitely. No we didnt go through Darren although lots of people have and I spoke to him and he was very helpful. I'll PM you later and give you all the details. Yes I have seen now it has been flagged - how could I have missed that! In a panic now as we have get everything to TRA soon to be in with chance of getting visa we are going on 489 FS. Complete nightmare we have been stalling on this for the last year as hubby kept getting cold feet! He totalling wants it now but if they withdraw his occupation and we haven't received an invite that will be it for us....! Pressure is on.

What is a 489 visa? And I wouldn't worry your a lot further on than we are haha we will be relaying behind you ? I did hear though that if it does get moved it will likely go onto the COL list instead so basically employer or state sponsored so not the end but would make it a whole lot more complicated as we want WA as we want to go to Perth...what about you?

And I know exactly what you mean I mentioned to my husband about 6 years ago and it was a complete no go and then again in October and it took me from then to Christmas before he said yes we will look into it and now he's 100% in so we both really want this and the thought of not getting it is devastating. Well good news is that the concensus is that the TRA is a lot quicker than the 8-12 weeks which is good news. X

  9. hi there, we went through the skills assessment last year with TRA for my hubby who is a chef. We didn't use an agent so made the mistake of assuming hubby's chef qualification here would be equal to AQF3 and it wasn't therefore he failed the first time. He reapplied with all the same evidence but as 'cook' and passed. If you look at theTrades Recognition Australia website it tells what is needed but you have to download the guidelines as the evidence required is in much more detail here. When collecting your documents together do a mental tick next to each thing so you don't forget anything as TRA are brutal, they will not contact you asking for additional evidence, they will just fail you if anything is missing.Your application must be complete and 'decision ready'.

I think it states on their website that you only need 3 years full time work experience after qualification but 1 year out of the last 2 years to make sure experience is current. We sent around 5 years evidence even though hubby had been in the trade for around 15 years. We later claimed 8 to 10 years in our EOI and included evidence goung back this far in the visa application. I wouldn't send 9 years worth of evidence for the TRA as when you get the successful outcome it does not state anywhere how many years work experience you have, its just not necessary. Only when you do your visa application do you show your evidence for the points you are claiming.

I am not sure if the waiting times have changed but we only waited 4 weeks before getting the successful outcome.

sorry I seem to have rambled on a bit!

    Hi

Thanks so much for the above info much appreciated. Rambling is good ...I do it too my husband don't call me jack a nory tell a story for nothing haha ?

How did you claim for the training period at the beginning of the work evidence period? I know we need to show that the first three years would of been as a apprentice type work because they base it on how long it would take an Australian to train in a trade then you need the additional 3 as work experience at competent trade level making it the 6 years in total. So what if we just put the 6 years down which is what we know we have the evidence for....before this I would need to check in the loft because I am mostly a horder too haha

So theoretically were looking at the following:

    AQF certificate

    Wage slips for 6 years+

    Tax returns for 6years+

    ....??

  10. Hi there we are in the same boat! Husband s a plasterer just doing his aqf with skilling Australia and next stage is TRA which just seems a nightmare! He is self employed and no regular contractor just lots of private jobs. Got all his accounts for the last 8 years so figure I will send all ths together with tax documentation and references from builders, suppliers etc. what do you mean when you say occupation on flagged list is ths something I have missed, assume it potentially means occupation could be withdrawn panicking now!!! ? Be good to keep in touch as we going through same process!

    Hiya

Yes definitely keep in touch your the first person I have found doing exact same thing and who is not far from where we are. Are you doing the assessment with Australian skills assessments (Darren Leake)?? Where are you with that? We haven't yet signed on dotted line but going to fill out forms tonight and husband is ging to gathering evidence at work In the meantime.

I mean that solid plasterer has been flagged along with another 49 jobs that could be excluded from the 2014-2015 SOL list this year based on job market needs. If it is it will be done in July 2014 which is the reason for our interest to get started now as we wasn't going to until after June because we have a holiday booked and to be honest we wanted about 2 years max to get house finished sold and be ready to move....This way we may have to activate it sooner instead but I would rather have visa than not have it. X

  11. Hi

We have finally decided to go for the visa 189 application and to plough ahead with it now in the hope that were well on our way before any potential changes may be made in July as husbands trade is on the flagged list ? (Thank you for everyone who has helped us so far) we know my husband needs to do a AQF Cert 3 Solid Plasterer first so we're starting this, this week and are ok now on the evidence required there however we would like to know what exact evidence is required for the TRA assessment as we really want to try and get this sent over by the end of February beginning of March because of the estimated 8-12 week potential wait for an outcome. I really don't want to get this wrong so I need all the evidence to be spot on. So any ideas of what is needed and how much of each evidence required? Ie my husband is claiming 9 years employment so does he need wage slips for the whole of this period?? Because firstly he was paid weekly therefore 52 wage slips x 9 is a whole LOT of play slips haha! Or is the yearly tax return suitable?? We would have to look in our loft but I don't know whether we have anything further back than 6 years which is the legal requirements (he's self employed but was a subcontractor for this company for the whole period above) so what would we do in this instance?

    Thank you

  12. Hi BHM

Thanks for your reply. So you did AQF 3 with ASA Darren Leake? This is who we are in contact now with he's had lots of good reports on here. Did u do the solid plastering? Do you mind me picking your brains about it? I can PM you if that's ok? Just about evidence types that are needed and how much of it and what is the verbal assessment like? My husband is stressing about it all. Problem area we think is that he doesn't do rendering as he doesn't do any external however we now know this is all they do on solid plastering in oz..... so we're at a loss.

    Thanks

  13. Hello and thank you for your reply.

Just asked my husband and no he doesn't do that he says he just buys it?? So it is how he's thought from videos we have watched on YouTube fibrous Isn't the correct code to apply on its solid however the stumbling block here is we still are unsure a out what evidence is needed to be suitable to pass this aqf assessment? Because he doesn't do rendering however he knows of it etc. Would it be better to complete a course in the UK (nvq2) then we will need to wait a further 3 years then to build up his work experience profile again. It will set us back 5 years but it's better than nothing I guess.

    Thanks

Yes he will need the AQF 3 unless you've served apprenticeship and have all the paperwork to back it up for tra.

Solid plastering = floating walls, skimming, gyprocing , Acrylics,

Fibrous plastering = coving, runnging coving etc, moulds

When plasterboards are used in oz there all taped and jointed so he wont be doing that, if he goes into solid plastering then he'll firstly be starting off on the mixers from the bottom up, then rendering all day (80m a day ) .... after that theres setting with lime putty , acrylics and sand finishes... Lucky enough I did all when I was there. Unfortunately he may need to realise that he wont walk in skimming... its from the bottom up again as there materials /techniques vary from the uk... skimming with lime for instance you have to be rapid at throwing on yet neat still....

I would say go into solid because if he hasn't much experience in fibrous then it'll probably set him back .... has he ever made cornice from a profile with hessian etc ??

Hope all this helps - i'll log in when I can but haven't been on here for ages as oz isn't on my agenda at the mo

  14. Hi my husband and i are just looking into a 189 visa. Background is 9 years in the trade no qualification. We know (emailed TRA) to confirm that if he goes and completes the AQF 3 certificate via RPL then with the work evidence and employer verifications etc we should get a successful Assessment outcome with them to proceed to EOI

My question is what are the main differences between Solid and Fibrous and which would be the most appropriate one to go ahead with as the person we have contacted isn't very forthcoming with the desired information. My husband does aLot of plasterboard skimming which I Have read isn't the done thing very much over there but where does his work related evidence come into this because it's different In UK to what they do in oz so he wouldn't of had much if at all work doing it that way so couldn't provide evidence of it...?

I hope I am explaining this right but my husband is fast asleep and it's left to me to ask the questions it seems ;-)
