  1. Ooo this is risky?! I have a job to start on the 13th but if the visa has not arrived this can be moved back. I don't see why we wouldn't be granted the visa but still a little worried of flying without it x

Hurrah - woke up this morning to news of visa being approved! So just under 5 weeks to process - every chance yours might be done in time if lodged this week...

  2. 5 weeks today we fly out to Perth - 1st April - house sold and scheduled to complete on same day(either utter madness or great timing..), cars to sell, life to pack and erm visa still to land......keeping calm though and all planned out I hope with accommodation, removals all lined up and finger on the buttons of other things ready to say go - just need my magic 457 to be granted or I'll be in a spot of trouble #timetosweat

Keep faith gar374 - we didn't have a sniff of a viewing or a sale for 6 months and then it happened, exactly at same time I found the right job which was a bit lucky

  3. I had the same problem and ended up ringing Australia whilst I was still in the UK, they sorted it straight away but the call cost me heaps :(

Yeah spoken to the NAB a couple of times but unresolved - that was with agent in UK who spoke to bank in Aus...maybe direct would be better so might try that...cheers

  4. Are you with three or vodaphone? It is a problem a few experience but it isn't NAB it's actually the phone service provider that stops texts from Australia, why I've no idea. Some of their stores don't even know there is a problem until you stand in the shop and try and get one of your friends to text from Australia.

I'm with EE and they did say it was probably a phone network issue. They did however say once the money is transferred they will email me to confirm it was in account. Guess I was a little nervous that my life savings all disappear out of sight for a week or so until I've activated account but I know it's all above board really...keep watching the pound rise which is main thing $2+ by end of March I hope :)

  5. I've also signed up with NAB and Moneycorp in readiness for transferring funds, however whilst I've found NAB very easy to communicate and deal with they can't seem to send me a simple text with the passcode for me to enable online access to my account !? Not that I can do anything with account but it's a bit of a basic ask that can't seem to be done - Current advice is wait until I get over there and activate accounts...is this a common problem experienced?

  6. Hi Scotty, I just fired an email to our employee services department and asked for letter of reference for employment. That was it really, no drama - emailed back within 48 hours or so with standard letter. That was a year ago now and no-one was any the wiser internally until I announced I was leaving at start of year. Guess it depends how big your organisation is and if they adhere to confidentiality standards...

  7. Thanks - no it was okay, but staff attitude left a lot to be desired - especially on return journey. They acted really put out if you asked for anything versus singapore staff who were so polite and friendly throughout. On my own I'm not bothered but I have 5 Children so it's quite important and worth a bit extra...

  8. Too much!

We will have a drink most nights. I'll have a couple of glasses of wine and OH will have a couple of stubbies.

Phew...reading this was starting to think it was just us...we have the odd night off but rare! 56 sleeps until we arrive in Perth and I'm guessing not many nights will go by without some form of medicine :)

  9. Oh doesn't sound good...we are using Santa Fe too - just pending visit and quote from John Masons next week. Checking over details in previous quotes I had from Crown And PPS, both had clearance fees included. Crown states 'normal' clearance fees so makes me wonder what this means exactly. Response sounds bit odd to me - sounds like you had choice to exclude or include these fees and you chose to exclude upfront? With Crown and PPS this wasn't discussed as something to opt out of....

  10. The arson is a bit surprising! The anti-social behaviour well...that could be the stable staff (of which i used to be one) but more likely is that my mother had one too many Vinos in the pub ;)

Oh and the antique shop got ram-raided one night. And no I don't mean an angry male sheep ran into the window [emoji1]....but then, when in Yorkshire!

    Very funny....

4 cases of arson and criminal damage last year FYI - back street in March, sharp hill close in April, kirkgate in August and north road in September. Can't find any news items on them though so must be minor high jinx by the stable staff....either that or your mother also has a fire habit you don't know about ;)

  11. Verystormy has posted many things about crime on here and various stats etc ....not just the odd post.....never saw him once get this bombardment.

It's a lively debate for sure with strong opinions but most in favour of looking at things a bit more positively and trying to reassure you I think more than do you down - you've experienced a massive change as I'm sure I'll find out in 9 weeks (can't wait!) and will be acutely more aware of environmental factors that we normally take in our day to day stride.

Not to bang on but I have relatives in Kallaroo - they have been there for 30+ years and never been broken into or anything. Hardly newsworthy on social media is it to read the headline "yay day 11,323 and I've still not been burgled, mugged or had anything stolen!". I was mugged once in Coventry.... at knifepoint in a subway which was fun...just bloody unlucky but stuff happens.

    Keep smiling :)

  12. Whereabouts in the Dales? My parents are in Middleham!

Not far away actually..I'm just above in Teesdale...63 more sleeps though and we'll be in Perth :) :)

Middleham Reports only 1 drug offence in November , but 2014 history is interesting - quite a bit of arson, theft , the odd violent crime and anti-social behaviour....if you look for it you'll find it everywhere.

If I wake up in the night and think to hard and want to hear noises I will. As a social experiment everyone reading this tune into your senses tonight when you go to bed and try listening for curious and disturbing noises.... Bet most of you will hear something odd. Saying that sleep well and don't have nightmares!

  13. Just out of curiosity I downloaded an app - called crime map for England and Wales. Now as far as I am aware zero crime occurs out in the dales where I live and have done for 10 years....oh no no no....by the powers of apps like this I can now see all sorts going on month by month! Burglaries, theft from a garage 5 mins from me, violent crime in next village, lots of anti-social behaviour, drugs close by (?!). Point I'm making here is now I'm looking for it I can easily find it and much more than I ever expected - even lets you set up alerts for updates, so for the ultra paranoid it's a great app! Am I worried...not at all....app deleted :)

  14. Yeah, not belittling it or indeed dismissing impact on individual lives affected but that's not the bigger picture. Broader, longer term stats and trends enable a more balanced setting of ones general expectations. Social media is great but it can contain significant bias in perceptions....trust me I analyse this stuff for a living...

I once lived in Coventry and was repeatedly burgled by different neighbours in different areas...bad luck & back experiences.com. Couldn't broadcast this anywhere as social media didn't exist then...

  15. Media plays a huge part in polarising things and one thing to note is burglary is seasonal - your in middle of summer hols over there. It's the Peak time for burglaries with folks on hols and therefore the reporting of it follows suit so bear this in mind....

Negative Burglary stats hit headlines here this week in uk too...

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/uk-top-20-burglary-hotspots-revealed-manchester-top-but-london-dominates-list-9082314.html

I've taken a look at the stats on rates per 1000 in Perth and overall they are surprisingly similar to UK(thought they would be better) - suburbs we are looking at compare quite favourably though so it's all about weighing it up..

This article is a bit old but I Much prefer reading news through a more positive lens...

  16. Is it a 457? Seems too quick to be offered PR option after 6 months. Standard is 2 years after 457. I'm coming over on a 457 in April + wife and 5 Children... Some say it's too risky but we say nothing ventured, nothing gained and it's our only way to be fair...no regrets, just one big adventure with determination to succeed one way or another ;) good luck!
