Congratulations on you good start, me and Hannah have only been here for 5 weeks and have landed jobs, shes got 3 now I think, and have only just been accepted for a house, we move in on Monday, how are you finding WA?

Have you tried looking on gumtree? I think I saw quite a few adds for bricklayers required for new homes. I hope this helps.

That's similar to my husband too. He has also had his own firm in the past, some of the old companies he has worked for have also closed down.

Did they give you the chance to submit additional info or did you have to pay again?

They did give me the chance yeah, I never had to pay for anything twice, in terms of submitting evidence (apart from postal fees) but in terms of giving Vetassess evidence I never paid them twice, they even extended my application to help me so that has helpful from them.

Sorry to jump in the middle of your chat, I am bring assessed by future skills international here in the uk.

On arrival in perth I will need to take my OTSR if successful !!! to energy safety and then enrol on the gap training course as you mentioned.

How difficult is it to actually get employment with a company to allow you to complete your e profile ( evidence ) ?

 

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

yeah that's right, sounds like you know the process, once you enrol for the college you will need an employer, I was really really fortunate, I found an advert on gumtree, a guy was looking for an overseas electricians looking to go through the training as he has dealt with people like us in the past (he finds us better to use than young apprentices) but I have had a few offers. I wouldn't stress about it while your in the UK (easier said than done because I was) because I was applying left, right and centre from the UK sending emails and letters to companies and didn't hear anything back. They will not speak to you unless you are in Perth, with a workers licence, White card (like the UK CSCS card, about $50, online 1 day course from home) transport and basic hand tools. I hope you find this information useful, good luck with your assessment, I remember having mine!

It used to be easier years ago. U only had to provide ur jib card I believe. . Now it's just a money making scheme.

I believe it was like that yeah, like you say its a money making scheme now, your husband will be in for a shock as well with the standard of work, I don't want to put you both off your move or anything like that, but the electrics here are about 10 years behind or so from the UK, so let him prepare himself, they weren't happy with some of my references ect from previous companies, also I had a business for two years before I arrived in Perth and they wanted some references from clients I did work for, getting them to sign paper work ect, it was just alot of hassle I thought for something so little, despite the fact I had provided statements saying I have been working as an electrician for years after my apprentice

ship.

You do yeah, they almost class it as a mini apprenticeship, so they want you to be gaining on the job experience, they whole thing is mainly building up the 1000 working hours, the part a is only two weeks at college, the part b is 1 week and the open licence is only a week as well. I wish there was another easier way of doing it, when I first looked into it all last year I couldn't find another way. but I wish your husband all the luck with the application, VETASSESS can be picky with the evidence you supply by the way, they want everything to be certified in a particular way ect.

I've just started all my re training in WA, but I had to do a lot of work in the UK first before I even arrived here, firstly I applied to VETASSESS, having to supply all my qualifications, references, past experiences ect, then have an assessment, all costing around £1500, if successful you will receive a permit that allows you to work only under supervision, this is called a provisional (B) licence, you apply for this through energy safety, cost $114. once you have the licence you can then apply for a college placement, total costing will be around $4000 over a 3 part course, part A, part B and an open licence course. you also have to do an Eprofile log of 1000 working hours. I am due to start my part A in a few weeks. and after all this, you can then apply for your A class licence. I think its going to be a long year having to be what feels like an apprentice again, unfortunately that's how its done. I hope this gives you an insight in what you have to do,
