  1. Info you been given is spot on.Infrastructure here cant keep up with the growing population, simple as that.We started SOR in rentals in Rockingham ( shoalwater and Baldivis),bit too quiet,Moved Canningvale SOR, then bought in Ellenbrook NOR where we ve been 6 mnth.

Its all so daunting at first, but exciting too.Did you have to sit an Ielts test ?

Give us a shout if we can help !

    Cheers for now

    John and Annette

  2. Hi We started off in Rockingham, been here 2.5 yrs now.Beds are dif sizes so mattresses wont fit the beds here.Do a double ,queen and King.Few inches bigger than UK ones.Bedding will be the same too.Msg me if I can help in anyway.Dont want you guys to struggle when you get here like we did !

    John

  3. Hi ya,

This is new to me just found this site, wondering if anyone can help me,I am 52 years old, have been an electrician for 36 years in the UK,found trying to be a electrician in Australia,is there is to many obstructions,is it still possible to get a sponsor and some other work, thinking my electrical experience may help me.Must say they always say we what your skills come over, don't. make it easy do they.Just thinking on moving because I have 2 daughters 24years and 20years who are nurses and are thinking to move in the near future, this is why I am looking to see how easy it is to get sponsor and work,(much harder than I thought),any info would be much appreciated.[/quote

Yes mate,Is bloody hard and getting harder.Im a Cabinetmaker, took me 2.5 yrs to get a visa with a state sponsorship for WA.Your 52 so unless you got a shed full of dosh and dont want to work full time just part time,Last I was aware 50 is the cut off age for work sponsors, but, dont quote me on that.Your Daughters stand a better chance of getting sponsors as nurses.Even tho all trades are badly needed here ,and your trade especially is needed ALTHOUGH and its a biggin, you have to go back to college and earn your WA electrian licence, just to start at the btm.Me thinks you dont want that ?Its wrong and it sucks !

  4. Can anyone tell me the ladies fashion labels over here? I used to shop at M&S and Next in the UK but always wonder which shops to buy my clothes in (mainly for work).Just looking for a reasonably priced smart/casual shop to go to.

    Thanks.

  5. So I've been here a year now and still not settled into a job! Isit just me or do Aussies really hate us poms? Starting to feel like I'm fighting a loosing battle. Every time I think I'm getting somewhere it just doesn't happen :( so if anyone knows of any jobs in Rockingham area please let me know :) thank you

Snap...been here a year too and hardly anything in Rockingham. We are trying to move nearer to the city in the next month so I'm hoping that will give me better opportunities.I work in admin and when I first arrived I was told by a lady at Bridging the Gap that there were no admin jobs here (Rocko) or agencies that could help me.If you try on Seek there are sometimes vacancies around the naval base and Kwinana.

  6. You would need to drive to nearest station, trains about every 15 mins I think

i would avoid driving from quinns to cbd if you can, tedious and will soon loose it's novelty, even when the suns shinning, if you have the choice I would train in

Do you have to pay for parking at the train station?

  7. Maurizios, Fitzgerald St....very expensive, but Maurizio himself is front of house, and very good. It serves authentic antipasti....but as I say it's for special occasions because of the price tag. Going to Jamie's too for wedding anniversary in June might see you there Jono and family......hope it's good, we have waited long enough for a table.Pea

Thanks for the recommendations. Do you have to book a table at Jamies as we thought you had to queue up.

  8. Afraid that's the only one I would recommend. Though there is a good one in Burswood if you fancy a short cab ride.

Getting on well thanks. Still in Mandurah, but now working in Africa. How long have you been in Oz?

Benn here a year, live in Baldivis. We go to Mandurah often with the dog.

    Working in Africa..wow that's a trek!

  9. I've been here for a month and have applied over 60 office admin jobs so far from permanent to casual. Although I've received responses from numerous companies and recruitment agencies saying I have the skills but just wasn't selected this time and that I should continue to apply for other positions or they will keep me in their database.

    • Is this because I do not have any local experience?
    • Would getting my resume redone help?
    • Would getting a casual job as (a cashier or kitchen helper) help as a stepping stone to get into the skilled workforce?

I'm in the same boat..applied for loads of admin jobs and nothing back except a sorry.

I had my CV professionally done before I left the UK and I'm thinking to maybe get it done again here. There's a lady on Gumtree who offers CV writing for about $50.

When I first arrived I volunteered at the Salvos shop to get me out of the house and some experience.

Let me know how you get on.

  10. Hi all,

Can anyone please tell me what the risks involved are if I break the lease on our rental please?

Been in it 7 months now and got 5 to go and have seen a fantastic house/location and the timing could be tricky due to finding another tenant for this house (4x2) and we are going on holiday in 3 weeks for 10 days!

Is it worth the hassle and risks or shall i just bite my lip and stay put in the hope something else comes up at the end of our lease in the right price range etc..... HAVE YOU BROKEN A LEASE AND DID IT ALL WORK OUT OR DID IT COST TOO MUCH MONEY ETC ETC.......

    :arghh: Many thanks in advance!!

    Where are you based?

We are looking for a rental on 28th June without a pool.

  11. We are looking for a rental from the end of June this year.

There's me and my partner and a small dog (Westie).

Looking for Rockingham/Baldivis areas, don't mind if it's a smaller property as this one we're in is too big.

We are tidy people and can get a reference from the current agents to say we are clean & tidy and pay the bills on time.

    Thanks.

  12. We had to leave our Westie at Sydney as Byford was full.It really upset us ,missing him for a month. We arranged for a dog walker to visit him 4 times a week and they posted photos on their website so we could see him.It didn't cost much and was such a relief knowing he wasn't just stuck in jail (as my hubby called it). If you are interested in their details I will dig them out for you.He was a bit out of it on the flight from Sydney to Perth!

The quarantine centre for WA has closed until the end of May due to bushfires.

Its left a lot of us in a pickle.

Do we delay bringing pets over?

The alternative being offered is UK to Sydney, quarantine time done there and then internal flight to Perth.

Has anyone done this? Does anyone have recommendations for internal Oz pet shipper?

A stressful time has just been made a whole lot worse

    TIA

  13. We used Oz house rentals when we first came over.Tracey is good at getting back pronto so she may be able to sort something out.

Try putting an ad on Gumtree as well as you sometimes find rentals there.

    Good luck.

    Hello,

We are a family of 4 (boys are 9 + 6) and we need to book furnished accommodation urgently.

We plan to be in Perth on 12th March and need fully furnished accommodation until our container arrives.

I've emailed Oz House Rentals (waiting for reply) and Lets-Perth (reply received) but wondered if anyone knew of anyothers to contact.

Any help would be very welcome

    Diane.

  14. Hi Everyone...

    Mandy

How much is the lease on the house and when are they leaving for the UK? Thanks.
