  3. Hi all,

    We have been in Perth around 4 weeks now, the football season is over and I understand my son cant join the summer football camps until he is registered, if any one has any info that could help I would much appreciate it. He played for a junior team back home (Newcastle UK) and made some really good friends, he was really upset to leave them, would love to meet some parents with boys around his age to arrange playdates and such. If anyone can recommend a good football club close to Heathridge or Ocean Reef that would be great.

  4. My name is Shelley (33) and my hubby's name is Mark(39), we have 3 children a daughter 14 and twin boys 11 and live in Kinross, we would love to make some new friends. If anyone fancies the same get in touch and maybe we could meet up for a coffee or even push the boat out and have a beer :laugh:

  5. Hi all,

    We live in Heathridge which is very close to Joondalup. Myself 32 and my wife 31 moved here recently from Newcastle Upon Tyne, my mother 56 is also with us on a tourist visa, she enjoys a game of bingo and social drinks with friends.

    We have noticed signs for bingo at Iluka on Mondays at 19:30, and were wondering if anyone else would like to meet up and have a game over drinks.

    We also have two children a girl 11 and boy 7 who are attending Posidon primary in Heathridge.

    If anyone would like to meet up for a game feel free to get in touch.

  10. Hi all, just wondering if there are any geordies like myself in the Perth area, I live in Heathridge which is close to Joondalup.

    If there are i would love to meet up for a pint or a game of golf some time.

    Obviously you dont have to be a geordie if you'd like to meet up for a game.

Im 32 my wife is 31, are daughter is 11 and son 7, we think they will be attending Posidon Primary then hopefully Ocean Reef high school.

    Anyone want to meet for a coffee or a pint please feel free to get in touch.

  11. I feel like these threads keep cropping up because people don't like the answers on the other 'can I survive on this?' threads so they ask a new one in the hope that things have changed.

    I asked my OH yesterday if we lived extravagently - because we are currently on one wage (not through choice) and have been for over 7 months now. We have much more than $65k a year coming through and we find it hard work to make the bank balance come the end of the month - and there are only two of us.

    His answer was, he didn't think so.

    So my 2 cents worth....

    $65k (plus super I'm assuming) would equate to $4,280 per month

    Renting a $500 per week house would be $2,166 per month

    2 Mobile Phones PAYG = $60 p/m

    Broadband = $50 p/m

    Gas = $30 p/m

    Electric = $150 p/m

    Medical insurance = $200 p/m (basic cover for couple + 2 kids)

    Fuel = $200 p/m

    Food/Household items = $150 per week ($650 p/m)

    This leaves $784 for non essentials - some of the above, such as broadband, medical insurance and mobile phones might be also classed as non-essential if you were really cutting costs, but I'd also add Foxtel ($100), Home Insurance ($100), Car Rego & Maintenance ($??) to that list above as well. And I've also been very conservative with the cost of things - they can cost a whole lot more depending on your usage.

    That leaves $180 per week for saving for holidays, clothes, school fees & sundries - basically everything you can't plan for.

    For me personally, that is not enough to live on. We try to have $500-$600 per week left over for things you can't plan for (having a life) and most weeks that's not enough.

    This is exactly what I was looking for, car, phone and fuel does not apply to me as I get a company car with my job which is fully paid for including insurance, along with fuel and company phone. We would also receive benefits of around $470 every two weeks.

    our long term plan would be for my wife to work, we would just like to get the kids settled into a school before she looks for a job.

    I appreciate the time you have taken to respond to my query.

  12. Hi all,

    I keep hearing mixed opinions from others saying that the cost of living is reaaly expensive, and you could'nt survive on a salary less than 100k.

    I will be moving to Perth WA with my wife and our two children (11&7), I will be the only one working and will be bringing in a salary of 65k. We are going on a 189 visa which is a permenant visa, this allows us to claim family benifits through centrelink, according to their website we should be allowed around $470 every two weeks.

    We are looking around the Kinross area, we expect to pay rent arount $500 a week.

    From these figures Ithink we should beable to live a decent life, I am fully aware everyones situation is different, we are not expecting to live like millionaires, we just want to pay the bills, beable to save for holidays and christmas and get through each month without worrying.

    Does this seem ok?

    Anyone else in a similar situation in Perth?

    Any correspondance would be appreciated.

  13. Hi.

    Can anyone please help answer my questions, as it stands i will be relocating to Perth with my immidiate family (wife and kids), but i would also like to take my mother with me who is 56 and still wants to work just part time. I hoped we could all fly together but looking on Visa sites the only way my mother is going to get a Parent Visa is after i have moved there and and become a australian permenant resident (which im not sure i will be with a 457 Business Visa ??), any answers to this dillemma would be appreciated ?, could i just fly my mother out with me then applyn for the visa once she is in the country or does she need the Visa just to get into the country ????? HELP !!!:arghh:

  14. Hi my name is Phil, myself and my family are looking to relocate to Perth later this year, i have almost sealed a sponsorship with a company and they informed me that it would be a 457 Business visa that i would get. I am taking my wife and children but am also interested if i can take my mother over on the same visa and if she would beable to work ?.

    Any help appreciated, thanks.
