  1. How's it going everyone? Anyone formed a band yet? Is anyone interested in going to gigs? My wife is 5 months pregnant and isn't particularly into my music (rock/punk) so I was wondering if anyone on here was interested in going to gigs? Particularly nofx are playing at the metro in November. One of my all time favourite bands. Hope you're all settling into Perth!

  4. Well its just gone 6am here in Joondalup. I have been up since 5am and I have been for a 3 mile run. I'm just sat by the pool having a cup of coffee whilst the rest of the house sleeps. We have been here 5 weeks now and I thought it was time I gave you an update of whats been going on.

We arrived to rain in late November, but I must say this is the only rain we have seen since then! The weather has been beautiful, temperatures have reached 43 before christmas but they are normally around the 30 mark. I love the warm weather and I am loving it here.

We are staying with friends still as we are waiting for our container to clear in Fremantle. We have been told it should be the next week or so. We have our house ready, which we have had for 3 weeks now! We missed out on the first one as we made the mistake of saying we didn't want it until our container arrived so we stated we wanted this one immediately upon viewing it. We have been paying for somewhere we aren't staying but we have piece of mind that we can move straight in. Our friendly Aussie neighbour is watching it for us in exchange for him using our carport to store his boat whilst we are away. ahhhh the aussie life!

I have started work. I have just completed my probation and they are happy to take me on full time as of the new year. The work is far more relaxed than back home. I was under a lot of pressure in the UK and this has completely changed here... for double the salary may I add! Our little boy is enrolled in Primary School and starts with the new term in february. He is happy with his school after we visited and had a personal tour with the principal. A very friendly bloke.

My other half will start looking for work once we have moved in and our lad has started school. Its all going very well.

So I guess you want to know the pro's and cons....

Pro's.... The weather, the way of life, the beach, body-boarding, swimming, the salary, less pressure.

Con's.... The traffic, the driving style... the "Wait a while culture takes some getting used to but this isnt really a bad thing.

On the whole we are very happy and glad we made the move, we are looking forward to settling in to our new home and really embracing our Aussie lives. Also we cant wait to try out our new massive BBQ!

  5. We arrive 10hrs later than planned, due to the 'storm' in the south Sunday night!!

everything is beginning to far into place already. We've bought a car, sorted phone and have secured a lease on a really lovely house :0).

Our dog arrived into quarantine this morning and is happy and settled.

hoping everything else falls into place this easily... I'm kinder waiting for something to go wrong!!

Well done guys, you are certainly getting on with it. We arrive later this month!!! cant wait!

  6. Fantastic post. Very encouraging to people who are just starting the process or for people like ourselves who will arrive later this month. Reading a positive post like this helps settle those doubts and nerves and makes us focus on the reasons we are making the move. You are right it takes a certain type of person to move to the other side of the world and we do it for all the right reasons. Thanks for posting.

  7. Hi everyone,

We arrive in Perth at the end of November and I only have a week to source a car before I start my new job. I have been trying to research what sort of car we want and I am getting conflicting opinions from people I ask. We are after a large family car. I will be using it for work and we will also be using it as a family car. So we are looking at Ford Falcon, Holden Commodore, Mitsubishi Magna type size. Looking at 2003-2005 sort of age.

I had read that Fords and Holdens were frequently seen on the highway broken down and overheated. So I was steering more towards a Mitsubishi Magna as these seem very popular. Now I have been told by a friend in NZ that they have had 4 mitsubishi's and every engine ended up blowing up!!

I was wondering what peoples experiences of these types of cars are? Who has a Falcon, Commodore and Magna and what is your experience with them? Obviously it will depend on whats available when we arrive to what we get but I want some sort of idea and not going in blind.

Thanks in advance for your help. Cheers guys.

  8. I've been trying to message this thread for months, but it wouldn't let me!! We lodged in June but are still waiting.....so frustrating! The problem for us, is that we have lived in to many places so between us we had 6 different PCC's to get and not every country is as efficient as the UK when it comes to supplying them! We finally submitted the last one to our agent this week.....PHEW! Total ball of nerves now!! Anyone know roughly how long the CO takes to make a decision from the date on which you provide the last remaining bits of info they have requested?

    ours was 1 month
