  9. Hi Ladies after a bit of hit and miss and a few changes a few of us are meeting this Sat from 2pm at the Lucky Shag on the waterfront near the Bell Tower. Some are staying a few hours some are saying they are making a night of it Either way would be great to see you there
  10. Hi Fiona You will usually find that the agents and landlords etc will only let you secure a rental when you are actually here and have viewed it in person on the day, 99% of the time anyway and also they require a months rent just for putting in the application, if you are succesful this goes as your bond, if not it's returned in a few days. We have always rented through an estate agent, so I can't comment on private lets etc. When we secured ours we gave a character reference from our holiday let here and a copy of our bank statements showing that we had adequate savings to pay the rent as we didn't have jobs secured beforehand. The rental market is in the news quite a bit here as being a little tough so I would say when you apply just take as much as you can to put towards the application. Hope this helps and good luck
  11. Good idea Carole!! I will change the header and the calendar for the meet
  12. Hi LadiesWas thinking of a ladies night out on Sat 17th March, or even an afternoon out if people prefer? Gives people plenty of notice. Was thinking of somewhere like the Moon & Sixpence/Lucky Shag etc in city or Freo if people prefer? Really not fussy as to where if anyone has any other ideas? It's a great way for everyone new and those of us that have been here for a while to meet up have drinks and a good old gossip!Hopefully we can get something organised between us all:wink: **** Meet up has changed to the week after to be held on 24th March as 17th is St Patricks Day and it will be manic ***
  13. Hi there My name is Lisa and me and my partner have been in Perth for around 3 years now. My OH is a mechanic and works for a company within the airport industrial estate and we live in Seville Grove which is a suburb of Armadale. Seville Grove + Champion Lakes are the 2 newer areas and the commute for him is around 20-25 mins straight up the Tonkin Highway, the only turn is into the airport estate itself. Armadale has a bad rap which goes back years and years when it was the last stop before people headed further down South, a bit of a ghost town really. Now there has been alot of regeneration work, we have a great town centre with all the big stores (Kmart.Target,BigW) and are one of the only few places in Perth that has Sunday trading. There is a great park in the town centre and a brand new skate park, Cinema etc. We are around 30 mins from the City, the same to Fremantle and about 40 mins from Mandurah so although many people think its way out, in reality it isn't. Other places that come under the Armadale council are Piara Water and Harrisdale again these are new areas. Armadale was one of the only places that maintained growth during the GFC etc. When I tell people that I live in Seville Grove they pull a face and say wow Armadale is rough eh? But compared to some of the areas that I have seen in my home town of Leeds they have nothing on them lol I can't comment on schools or anything as we don't have children but all in all we enjoy living in the area. We always intended to rent in the area for 6 months and move on, but ended up buying land and building as like you mention house prices are very reasonable If you want to know anything else just give me a shout
  14. Hi Everyone Alot of my friends back in the UK have been getting tax refunds due to a mistake in income tax banding etc. I just rang them now on the off chance to see if I would be owed anything and the result was 500 pounds!! All I have to do is write in and they will send the money to me here in Oz. Well worth a 3 min telephone call, all I had to give them was my NI number and DOB etc The telephone number is (UK) 0845 300 0627 Worth a try
