  1. We are planning on coming to live in Perth in summer 2018 and have a 190 visa that has been activated and runs out December 2018. Can anyone tell me the rules on leaving for a holiday once we move permanently? Do we need a return residents visa? Are these tricky to get? We wouldn't want to come across to the UK for a while just to give us a chance to settle but I just wanted to know the rules. Sent from my SM-G950U1 using Tapatalk

  4. Registering to teach in WA

Hi you can register with the TRBWA on a non practising registration until you move and work in Australia then you transfer over to a practising one after a few weeks of working over there I believe. Without having a registration it will be difficult to get a job. Hope that helps? Sent from my SM-N910F using Tapatalk
  5. Which shopping centre best?

Hi everyone! We're in Perth for a few weeks and already have our 190 visa ready to move in a year or so. This is our second visit and this time we're trying to check our schools and try to cover and much of the areas as we can! We're spending a week in Scarborough before heading up to geraldton and kalbarri and I really want to see what the shopping is like in Perth centre so can anyone recommend a good place to start? I've seen that there are lots of out of town malls but wanted to go to where there are most shops just to see what's there! Any recommendations? Thanks 😊 Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  6. Which activities in Winter?

Hi just wondering what kind of social stuff people get up to in the winter in Perth? Do people go to bars/pubs/ cinema/ eat out? Are there clubs in the city centre of Perth? I remember from the last time we visited at this time of year things seem very quiet in the evenings but that maybe just the places we've stayed!! Everything seems to shut fairly early too especially on Sundays. We went to Hillary 's boat harbour tonight and that was busy with an ice rink set up but I guess that because it's still the school hols until tomorrow! Is that the kind of place that people visit for the evening regularly or do people go to bars with mates? Don't get me wrong ...I don't hang out at the pub all the time in the UK 😉 but just wondering on the differences and similarities. ..? Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

  8. Which areas?

Hi I am wondering if anyone can tell me some of the areas/locations that command the highest prices for real estate? My husband is a property developer in the UK with his own business that build and develop high spec properties, we are over in Perth at the moment and would like to look around some areas for him to see the style and spec over here. He expects that front line, sea view properties command higher prices but as you can self build here more easily as there's so much space it's tricky to understand which suburbs have the top end properties...except near the CBD. He already has some meetings set up but would ideally like to meet with any agents too...are there any estate agents that ate specifically for the high end spec properties? ? Any ideas or advice would be fantastic! Thanks! Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  9. Which areas?

Thanks, we're starting to realise that! Thanks for your previous advice Laz!The open house was beautiful and very interesting looking at the spec and different design. it was so helpful to meet one of the team there and make a contact. We will keep a close eye on the market over the next 18 months to assess whether the time is right to continue the business over here. At the moment just trying to see all the different locations and design features of aussie properties! Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  10. Which areas?

Thanks for the reply, we had a great chat with someone from a major development and building company in WA so made some contacts already at an open house today and yes of course the market has changed into a downturn but there are still opportunities, it just depends on location and spec which has to be just right. There will always be people who want a high end property built from scratch and that build managed by someone else. My husband already has a property development business, we're not looking to build for ourselves. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  11. Which areas?

Thanks, yes we realise that the market is not great at all at the moment but we aren't planning on moving for another 18 months or so. Just wanted to make some contacts if possible and get an idea of designs etc. Thanks for the info....we will get looking at some show homes today now the rain has stopped 😉 Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
  12. Family meet up?

Hi we are travelling to Perth again in the summer for another visit before moving on a 190 visa in a year or so. I would really love to meet up with any families who have recently made the big move! I am a primary teacher and my husband works in property development we have two little girls aged 7 and 4. I would love the girls to meet and speak to other children who have experienced the move, my older daughter is getting a little jittery as she understands more about how far away Australia is. I would also love to have a chat with any teachers if there are any out there who could give me any advice. We head out in July for a month and plan on looking at schools and potential areas to live. Any chance of meeting anyone would be great! Debs
  13. Family meet up?

Hi Lauren! That sounds great! Thanks for the offer how did you decide where to settle when you arrived it was it dependent on your jobs? What are the schools like? Debbie
  14. Family meet up?

That would be great! How have your children settled in?
  15. Family meet up?

Hi me again, any families new to the Perth area that can offer any advice or tips? Anything would be much appreciated! Debs
  16. Family meet up?

Oh hi yes please we plan on staying south of Perth at some point. I loved mandurah when we stayed there last time! Sorry to hear it's tricky getting a permanent job, that's something that really worries me. How much experience has he got and private or state? I'm in the private sector currently and also thinking about secondary English as that's what my specialism is in. Debs
  17. Hi we have our 190 PR and plan to move in 2017. We want to open a bank account to transfer pounds via debit card or BACS into AUS dollars to start saving and want to use the favourable interest rate at present. Does anyone have experience of this kind of account. We have tried Barclays as my husband has an account with them, they have been less than helpful tbh.
  18. Opening a foreign currency account

    Thanks for the info!
  19. Opening a foreign currency account

Hi thanks for the reply, the thing is we want to use the money before we come out to live permanently... To pay for accommodation before and spending money next summer on our second recce. I wasn't sure if we can withdraw funds until we arrive?
  20. Hi we have a PR and are looking to move hopefully in 2017. I am a primary school teacher with 17 years experience in both state and private. Currently I work in a private school with an excellent reputation and outstanding status. I have 2 daughters 4 and 7 who currently attend my school too. Ideally I was thinking that I would be more suited to apply to private schools, just because that's my current experience but it's getting closer and I'm getting afraid that I won't be able to find any work. I have read on here that teachers are struggling to get positions. We are planning to visit again next summer so I wondered if anyone has experience of visiting private schools and handing them your CV at the time? It would be an ideal opportunity to look around schools for my daughter's but also for me to meet any potential heads etc what do people think... Would this be a good opportunity or no??
  21. We are heading to Perth in July and August yo activate our visa and are staying for 3 blocks of time ranging from 10 days to 5 days. We have a 3 and 6 year old in tow! If we wanted to explore Perth really well, which locations would people recommend? We currently live in a fairly rural location in the UK so wouldnt really suit slap bang in the city but the river area looks wonderful! I like the look of Mandurah, fremantle, bunbury and binningup..would this give us a good start? Also we arrive at 4 am so don't want to travel too far on the first day! I'm so amazed at the size of the area...where do we start??? :-)
  22. Looking at places to stay in Perth

Thanks for the replies! We're really not sure where we would want to live...depends on where I can get a job! We have decided to base ourselves in the Rockingham area for 5 days, bunbury for a few nights to explore the area down there, broome for a few nights then over to cairns. Mandurah looks lovely :-)
