  1. Happy New Year everyone, Been living in Perth with my wife for just over 6 months now and so far we are having a blast! So much so we have convinced my folks, sister and her 3 children to come and spend next Christmas with us here. Our current house in the Queens Park area isn't sizeable enough to house us all so we have been looking online a little bit for a rental property that sleeps 8, with a Pool for 20 nights in the Freo/Applecross region of Perth.....or pretty close. We have seen some amazing properties, but quotes are coming back at $10-$15k Has anyone had any great experiences with a particular company or anyone know of somebody with a property to rent which fits our quota? I would be grateful for any information that anyone may have. Cheers, MM
  2. Me and the wife have been freezing in the house we are renting this past week. Seems the houses here are not built for the chill factor. Despite leaving the UK in Feb and it being even colder there, we came to Perth via South East Asia (just over 3 months spent travelling) so completely de-climatised us from any winter hardship we had. Thought we would quickly become resilient of the morning and evening chill, but sadly, not yet. We kind of rolled our eyes as we got off the plane at 7am from Bangkok, seeing people in hats and scarfs, but its not often now that we don't have a big jumper on. Still its been great curling up on the sofa with the wife and a duvet while watching TV
  3. At least they are having some attempt with the regeneration. Just a shame the way they have managed the project overall, but it was nice to see it started before I left. Mark.
  4. We bought it from Cobra track and it is the exact same model that is installed as standard in all Porsche cars world wide. They assured us that it will work with the same frequencies just as our UK mobile phones work with the same frequencies in Oz. It will be the SIM that will be locked to the localised frequency. They don't have an Australian office either, that I can find.
  5. Wasn't too sure where to ask this question, hope here is ok. We should get our cars in about 2-3 weeks. One of them has a vehicle tracker installed and is (apparently) compatible with the Austarlian GPS network. I have been looking online to see if anyone can just fit a new SIM card and subscribe but having a lot of difficulty in getting a straight answer. Most are trying to re sell a complete system install. Has anybody here had any experience in re subscribing an existing vehicle tracking system at all? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark.
  6. I think you could be right. By far not the worst place to live but all the same by far not the best either. Good luck with the move Mark.
  7. Very small world Peata! I probably drove past Honeywell in Bracknell everyday. I will drop you a PM for sure, any information about any jobs would be greatly appreciated
  8. We used John Mason. Very good price although it is arriving a month later than we asked it too, but our boxes got put into a shared container so maybe it took a while to fill one up to send. Apart from that found them to be excellent.
  9. Really small world I was involved in the building project of the Stanley Spencer museum too. Max used to live across the road from it also. How long have you been in Perth Akasully?
  10. Also, good luck with the application Sunflower. How far are you in the process?
  11. Thanks Sunflower, We are still in travelling mode. Just been talking about spending a weekend in Freo staying at one of the hostels. Let's hope the exploring bug stays with us for a while. There seems to be an awful lot to do around here. Just limited with out a vehicle for a couple of weeks. MM
  12. Hi Akasully, I am from Bracknell and Max is from Cookham, near Maidenhead. She is definitely a dessert pastry chef! I love being the guinea pig MM
  13. Hi Portlaunay, Thanks for the welcome My name is Mark, my wife's name is Maxine and we are both 33 and have come from Berkshire in the UK. We haven't got our heart set on an area to settle just yet, but we have got a great deal on our current rental so we plan to take advantage of that for at least the next 6 months. Ideally, like most I guess, we would like to live closer to the sea, but we will just have to see where we are in year or 2. I am an Electronic Fire detection engineer and was a project engineer in the UK. My wife is a chef, she is looking to get back into pastry as she hasn't really done much of it since she qualified and would love to get back into that aspect of the kitchen. We both are looking into doing some form of sports. In particular I was doing some professional wrestling in the UK and might see if there is a local club. Also I had a try with some Jui Jitsu so will most likely look to try a club with that also. My wife is more interested in the gym classes. We went and had a quick look at Cannington Leisureplex yesterday and we are having a trial day there on Wednesday. Looks like a fairly decent centre. Hope that gives a little more of an idea about us
  14. Hello all, First time poster and frequent reader of Perth Poms forum My wife and I had our 189 Visa approval in January after almost 2 years of struggles and then spent the last few months travelling a bit of South East Asia before arriving in Perth with nothing more than our backpacks on Saturday early morning. We were lucky enough to have a friend pick us up from the airport and take us to get some groceries and SIM cards before we settled in at our rental. We are renting in the Queens Park suburb and so far it has been very quiet, apart from the odd plane taking off. Our cars are at Freo docks awaiting release for the rego to be completed. Our belongings have been delayed and will not arrive until around 3rd of July, which is a little annoying, but not a lot we can do about it. Haven't really done or achieved much yet and we have planned our first trip into the city for tomorrow. Have to go finalise the opening of our bank account and buy a few bits and peices. We will probably catch the train further up to Ikea too as we need a bed. Still deciding wether to go straight in hard with the job hunting or taking a couple of weeks to explore a bit first. Might meet it in the middle and explore next week whilst flitting a few e-mails to perspective employers. One thing for sure we will be doing is joining a gym asap as we have over indulged a bit on the amazing Asian food Hopefully I will be able to get on the forums more often and even post a bit more now that we have finally arrived. Speak to you all soon MM
