What should I do once the travel insurance runs out? I know that probably sounds really stupid but once we have permanent property do we then get house insurance? I've got travel insurance for 5 days with go walkabout for £30 for both of us 10 days until we leave, can't wait now!

Who should I book travel insurance with? Any recommendations? There are loads of sites but which one to use is the question... Ideally need health cover and luggage etc until we sign up to medicare. Thanks for the help Phillipa x

We are moving to Perth on 19th September and I'm just trying to get my head around a few things. I believe when we get there for the first year you're covered with medicare, where do you get the forms from to fill out? How does medicare work, is it like a doctors surgery and how much are prescriptions out of interest? Is it best to get health insurance too or only after the first year when the medicare cover runs out? Last question, does health insurance cover dental fees too? I've heard they are quite expensive in Perth! Thank you for your answers, in advance!! Any other tips useful to know please feel free to share! Phillipa x

Hey, I'm glad I've seen this post! I'm moving to Perth in a few weeks and leaving all my friends and family in the UK I will definately need some new girly friends. Me and my boyfriend are moving to Scarborough beach, we have both been granted a 457 visa so looking to stay for at least 4 years! Thank you everyone for your replies! I checked the FAQ section on the website and emirates is 30kg and 7kg hand luggage. Damn it Singapour airlines and Etihad are 30kg too! I don't know how i'm going to take all my things I have so much.

Hey! What is the luggage allowance when flying with emirates does anyone know? I have been told it's 40kg, it does not tell you on the website when you book your flights!!! I hope it's 40kg or more!! Also been told you can get a promo code for an extra 5kg but I have no idea where to get this from? Appreciate the help!!

Me and my partner have a bank account with METRO. You can sign up here go into one of their branches and use it wen you get to Perth, my partner lived in Perth 2 years ago for a bit and that's what he did. Said it al worked fine and no bank charges involved!

We are waiting for my boyfriends 457 visa to come through, it should be here in 2 weeks! Then we can book our flights and get packing!!! The visa was submitted over 2 weeks ago, my migration officer said it is normal for the visa to take up to 4 - 5 working weeks, so fingers crossed!! How long did it take for your visas to come through, was it roughly the same time? I guess everyone's application is different! I keep looking at accommodation but until we have the visa I can't book anything, so frustrating I just want to go now!!! We only have 5 - 6 weeks left in the UK if all goes to plan!!
