  1. Hi all, I have decided to ask for a re-mark so will see how it goes .I am considering trying it one last time but at a different venue as i believe this may be a factor . Without trying to sound bitter I am of the opinion that this is a money making scam,& one that needs investigating. Why do they not publish results ,give feedback ,etc ? I am eligible for a 489 visa but the restrictions are a major worry for me with 3 young children to provide for & having spoke to friends/workmates over there think I would struggle to find regular work in the nominated areas,& I am not prepared to gamble with my childrens welfare .
  2. Hi , hoping someone can give me some advice , I received my result on 15/02/13 and scored L9,R9,W7.5&S9 needed all 8s for a 190 visa . I am aware you can ask for the paper to be remarked , but have heard that 9/10 the score remains the same and it is a waste of time & £60 . I have now sat this exam 4 times & apart from the first one just keep missing out by 1/2 or 1 point on the writing module . I had a few lessons of a private tutor prior to the last exam , I had to do mock I.E.L.T.S papers then she would mark them and give me a band score ,my work went from 7 to 8.5 in a short space of time ,when I informed her of my result she was shocked as she said my work had improved dramatically . The second time I sat this exam my writing scored 7.5 & I genuinely know my work was not of the same standard as my last one but was scored the same !!I am thinking of throwing the towel in now with the whole thing due to this pointless exam . IELTS destroying dreams & fleecing you in the process!!!
  3. Hi Im Lindsay(OH is the floorman!) We came out to Perth to do a reccie march 2012 and decided we loved the SOR,unfortunatley time wasnt on our side and we tended to look around the most popular areas like Secret Harbour,Rockingham etc... I dont mind admitting that im addicted to realestate.com.au and love checking out the rentals in different areas but then am drawing a blank when it comes to finding out about schools(good schools)travel(to and from Perth CBD) whats going on the area for my kids, what the shopping facilities are like etc.. I believe Aubin Grove and Baldivis are both up and coming areas?? My son is 14 (very sporty!)and my daughters are 10 and 6(6yr old loves her ballet and tap) Is there lots to do in these areas regarding after school activities?? and to keep an active mummy(ie shopaholic!!) happy? Any Advice would be greatly appreciated...
  4. hi Gary , yeah we did a reccie to Perth last March & loved it , just waiting for TRA to come back ,hopefully next couple of weeks I am in touch regularly with a few mates out there so will keep posting any info i get . Know what you mean regarding work over here its dire , im working for less money than i was earning 10 yrs ago & longer hours !!
  5. hi Gary I am in Manchester , whats your trade & where you from ? You got your visa yet ?
  6. Hope somebody can put my mind at rest ,we are hoping to be in Perth by september , me the mrs & 3 kids (15,11&6) I am a floorlayer by trade and was hoping I could get the heads up regarding the long term outlook for work . I keep hearing that there is a massive shortage of tradies in W.A but after speaking to a couple of mates who are over there I am now having doubts as to how true this is . The lads i know have been working on the Fiona Stanley hospital in Murdoch for a couple of years now but the job is virtually complete now & a lot of lads (all trades ) are now getting laid off & struggling to find other work .Is this just a cycle (busy, slow, busy ,slow etc ) like we used to have in uk or is it genuinely slowing down ? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  7. Hi My family and i visited Perth in March 2012 and loved it that much we started the process of applying for a visa in June 2012.We submitted my paperwork to the TRA in Oct and are now playing the waiting game..I have 55 points and am currently resitting my IELTS(last score 7.5 on everything and need 8 for 190) My agent is pushing for us to get the 489 visa but to be honest the work situation in the designated areas puts me and the wife off as i doubt we'd be able to survive!! Just wondered if anyone can shed any light on what sort of timescales to expect once i get my TRA paperwork okayed!! We are also looking at moving into the Secret Harbour area (our children are jack 15, sophie 11 and Ruby 6..all sporty kids!!) Many Thanks
  8. Hi ,xClairex , would there be any chance you would be able to pass any info/advice onto me ,my family &I are hoping to be over in next few months .We did a reccy in March & really liked Secret Harbour &was impressed with both the Comet Bay Primary &College but would appreciate any feedback you could offer. Thank's
  9. Hi Taylors4, sorry to hear you are thinking of throwing the towel in with your application, but understand how you feel as we have felt the same on 3 occasions now (after recieving 3 IELTS results!!!) how far away was your OH away from the band you need,if its not to far it might be worth getting some help of a tutor .I know its another expense & the last thing you want to be doing after a days work but it might be worth a try otherwise you might regret it for the rest of your lifes. Each time I have missed out I have just felt like throwing the application in the bin ,but a couple of weeks later picked myself up & remembered why I started the ball rolling in the first place ,to give my 3 children the oppurtunity of a better life as I am sure you are . dont make any hasty decisions ,enjoy christmas & have a rethink in the new year .good luck with whatever you decide to do
  10. Hi Taylors4 , I can definitely understand your OH not wanting to sit IELTS again ,in my opinion it is just another money spinner & I'm sure there must be a better way for people to gain the extra few points than having to do this pointless exam . We are of the same minds as yourselves as to not apply for this 489 visa as I have to many reservations regarding being able to find work & with 3 children to support it's a massive worry . The maddening part for ourselves is our agent didn't inform us of these restrictions,we were told it was a temporary 3year visa but that you could apply for pr after 18 months ,they made sure they had their 2k fees first !! We have since heard that employers are very reluctant to employ people on this visa ,which only adds to the stress . How many times as your OH sat IELTS ?
  11. Sorry it's work there for 12 months & live there for 2 years
  12. With a 489 visa you have to pick an area of a list to live in for 2 years & live in for 1 year. You are not allowed to try & find work in any other areas even if you can't get work in the area you pick .If you have a family to look after this could be a massive Gamble not to mention living in an area you don't like for 2 years . This visa is the only one we are eligible for at the moment unless I can score all 8s in the IELTS ,I have now sat it 3 times and scored 8s & above in all but essay writing so now I have had to hire a private tutor (£25 a pop !!) if I manage to get all 8s I can then apply for a 190 visa which has no restrictions . Can you not go down this route ?
