  1. Can only speak for myself but in the 5 months we have been here I have only managed to work a handful of full weeks . If things don't start to pick up soon I will be questioning if we have made a mistake by coming here . Don't get me wrong it is a beautiful place but a very expensive one as well , we are paying $560 a week in rent about $280 a week for food ( family of 5) + other bills . My wife has applied for countless jobs but not even had an interview yet , we always said we would give it 2 yrs & take it from there but if things. Don't pick up soon we will not be able to afford that luxury as we would then have to come back to the UK with nothing & at 42 that would be horrendous . Perth is a wonderful place but not worth bankrupting yourself for .
  2. Thanks for all your positive comments!! This time in 3 weeks we embark on a journey of a lifetime and id like to say a big thank you to everyone on here for there support in the past year with all the ups and downs we've had going through the whole visa process. We will post when we have arrived and let you all know how we are adjusting to life... Carpe Diem!!!
  3. After 18 months of a long & frustrating battle to secure our 190 visa ( had to do the IELTS 6 times !!!) it is now only 3 weeks until we get on the big bird & the nerves are kicking in big time !!. Not looking forward to all the goodbyes, tears etc. I know we are doing the right thing for the 5 of us & no doubt in a few months we will be saying "why didnt we do this years ago " Just wish all the niggling doubts would fade away , schools, money, housing etc . I know thousands have walked this walk before & thousands will do after us,just wondered if anyone else who has took the plunge felt like this or is it just me overthinking things?
  4. Hi its Lindsay (the wife) we looked at the 489 visa before we got our 190 and we did discuss the 6210 postal areas(mandurah). We saw a lot more properties to rent online in Madora Bay,Halls Head, meadow Springs,Dawesville....stick with it something will turn up. Fingers crossed for you.
  5. must admit we favoured the south on our reccie last year ,we have got our hearts on Secret Harbour at the moment but that might all change when we get there in jan
  6. Its looking like first week in Jan for us as well, just feel there would be too much to sort out before xmas & feel that extra month will give us a bit of breathing space before the chaos on the other side ,must admit im not looking forward to spending a month at the M.I.L !!!! but needs must as the person buying our house wants to be in at start of December.
  7. fantastic news!!! its such a great feeling!! We got ours on Tuesday morning. Cant wait to get out there now!!

  14. No...Argghhhhh....(its the wife!!) im sick of checking my emails!!!! haha
  15. Great News..Really pleased for you.
  16. (Floormans wife..lindsay!!) Hi all, Our agent still wont allow us to have a password to check!!! I wouldnt mind, i only want to keep my eyes on the medical to check if it gets referred,as we have now sold our house so would need to find alternative accom for the length of the referral...and she still says no!!..arrgghhh Rant over..hahah!!
  17. Ours was submitted 5 weeks today and im not holding my breath to hear anything for at least another few weeks..!! although our meds are uploaded and police checks.Fingers crossed for everyone. Nice to have the support from everyone who's going through the same issues.
  18. Hi Glad to see im not the only one worrying about the length of time its gonna take to get a CO, we lodged our 190 on the 13/08 and as of yet heard nothing from our agent. In fact i emailed her today for an update and the reply was "its all uploaded and will happen when it happens"!! What they forget to realize is that to them its there job but to us its the final piece of the jigsaw and a killer to wait for!!!! Good Luck everyone!!!
  19. Stick with it mate!!! i got 9's in everything bar my writing(7.5) and sat the damn thing 6 times!!! After my 5th attempt i went to Leeds Uni to have one on one tuition with an IELTS tutor. Dont get me wrong ,this has cost me a fortune with the re-sits and tuition but at the end of the day its all down to you and how determined you are to go on the 190 visa. The 489 was never an option for my family as there was no work specific to my job in the areas stated...i eventually got the points needed and have lodged our visa!! Good luck with whichever you choose!!
  20. Thanks Andy..am going to let things be...for now!!!
  21. The work situation is great out there for me Nancy...ive been offered a fair few jobs already. We have friends that are in the same and similar trades. It looks a hell of a lot better than here!!! Does your husband do commercial or domestic flooring? I understand that our agent is just doing her job...but we have paid her and all im asking is for a password to check on the medicals..dont think thats asking too much myself!! Fingers crossed that they havent been reffered...
  22. It makes you feel helpless as everything is in their hands!!! To be honest i wish we had attempted the visa application ourselves...and saved a fair few quid in the process!! The latest email states that she will look at our application late next week to see if there's any updates/changes!! Kbounds just stick with pestering your agent...ask ask ask!!
  23. Hi We were given a TRN rather reluctantly from our agent which we then passed onto the clinic...I also felt like our agent was trying to say "slow down" but the thing is its taken us 15 months and we just want it over now and to be in WA..surely he would understand...but no!!! We have now had our meds and let our agent have our cleared police checks.I was desperate to know how our meds went so asked our agent for the password as i had a feeling my daughters was going to be referred and she has refused!!!! I am so frustrated as i have explained that we are in the latter stages of our house sale and if a referral is going to happen we need to sort out rental accom here...and she has still refused!!! Good luck with whatever decision you make !!
  24. Hi We were advised by our agent to wait after we submitted our 190(09/08) but she did say that it could make things easier (ie not waiting around for a case officer!) so we booked and had them 2 days ago. They are valid for 12 months from the date you had them... Good luck anyway!!!
