  1. Hi All Just exploring options for my mother, she's hoping to live here but not sure she can afford to buy somewhere outright or even rent on her own. was wondering if anyone had a similar experience, if there are websites for older people to discuss house shares etc? Any help would be great!
  2. Lovely to meet everyone today - look forward to the next one! Laura.
  3. Hi Sams we are in currambine, have one boy age 6 - he is currently nursing a broken collarbone but would happily meet up for a play - no problem I'll send you my details. L
  4. just had to put my 2 penneth in Clarkson has some nice sides to it, and the same with butler, I've got friend of a friend who lives there and they have no bother... we live in currambine, and its nice, but it has its downsides as well - mainly the idiots driving up to the station , but you get that everywhere... burns beach is lovely, its got lots of positives and plots are at a premium if you are beach side of marmion. iluka is fab and is hopefully where we will end up, its great for families, they have a residents association that everyone has to pay into so that the public areas and pathways etc are all kept neat and tidy - its all really lovely. it is expensive but it depends what you want and what you are happy with... we liked jindalee but it just felt a little too out of the way. my little boy goes to currambine catholic primary school - its great, he will hopefully go to either sacred heart or prendiville, but it is notoriously difficult to get them into sacred heart unless they are gifted/talented or sporting taking everything into account, the so-called bad areas are no where near as bad as the ones in the UK - its completely different - IMHO
  5. .....but I have seen some uni quotes with a similar make up... Confused!
  6. I understand that bit, but they are saying my gross salary would drop to below the TSMIT limit for a 457 visa. So I'm only allowed lafha on the amount between the 49k and my salary.... Just doesn't seem right....
  7. Hi there - Ian in particular! Ive been getting lafha for the last few months and at first the amount was less than I thought, my company hasn't done it before but she basically said that because the minimum salary had gone up from 42 to 49k for a 457 visa that I would only get lafha on the amount between the 49 and 60 (my basic wage). Not knowing anything about this I accepted it as true. Has anyone else heard of the calculation being done this way? I personally think its wrong and I'm going to approach them today. An external company did a calculation and I'm being short changed about 1100 per month.... Frustrated is not the word! Any thoughts appreciated. I thought lafha was a calculation of rent and food no matter what the salary, Thanks!
  8. Hi guysI've been ordering stuff from amazon and asos but can anyone shed light on other retailers who do free or cheap delivery to oz? Thanks L
  9. hey there, we've been here 3 weeks and were much in the same position as yourselves, couldn't have afforded to do the reccie. However, we jumped in, rented our house out in the UK and are here! One word AMAZING. honestly, people are generous, courteous and the kids are really well behaved. we love it and our 5 year old has settled ok considering. Perth is a great city with lots going on, and although its not one of priorities, there are lots of brits in the same boat. we won't be going back. never in a million years. PM me if you want
  10. Struggling to hire a van so wondered if anyone had a van we could hire today? Thanks in advance!
  11. hey there i bought a boost mobile dongle for my laptop for $19 with 2gb data, no questions asked from office works (like staples). i also got a prepaid (payg) sim for my UNLOCKED iphone. if its still locked you willstruggle. one of the best options, is a mifi 'unit' allows you to connect up to 5 devices over its wifi connection that you create with the 3g signal. virgin for my phone is great (optus) and the mobile dongle is optus too hope this helps. happy to answer any other questions..
  12. great advice - i've just started recruiting in ICT in Perth and I have 3 helpdesk/support roles on, but the nature of most of the jobs is that you have to be here now to be considered... however, i can certainly ask my colleagues what they think and let you know
  13. well, after 2 weeks of trailing and searching for properties, and after countless viewings turning up to houses - along with 15-20 other families... we have finally secured what we wanted! THANK GOODNESS! we got 2 character references and a call to my employer but to be honest, we offered more money than what it was up for, and we are fairly sure this secured it... Currambine, here we come! The little one is in currambine catholic primary and they have been lovely with him... I started my job on monday and all is good!
