  1. my daughter staring at mandurah catholic in feb (year 9). Just been for interview with the principal really impressed. Also had an interview at Frederick Irwin, I personally don't feel that Frederick Irwin will warrant the extra cost , just my opinion
  2. Hi Everyone finally got a rental this morning after 2 1/2 weeks of going into estate agents everyday applied for 14 got 1 thank god, thanks for all your helpful comments Diane
  3. Hi Eveyone He finally got a rental this morning such a relief , we never anticipated it being so difficult and your are right it was down to the area we were looking , areas surrounding mandurah are in very high demand. He went into estate agents every day for 2 /12 weeks applied for 14 and got 1 thank god, I can now look forward to my flight 3 weeks today knowing I have a house to go to. Thanks again for all your helpful comments Diane
  4. Hi its Andys wife again sorry to put such a negative post on here but suppose it will give people an honest view of things . Ive just come off the phone to him and he sounded thoroughly depressed. He has spent the day in Mandurah looking for a rental again he said people are walking the streets with rental agreements the demand is so high. He got talking to a guy who had applied for 18 and not got any and was considering flying home. Im really worried that Andy will feel the same very soon. If anyone knows of a house available anywhere in Mandurah please let me know. It has to be a 6210 postcode area because of our visa restrictions. Thank you in advance for any replies and hopefully I will be able to post something positive soon .
  5. I think its the area im looking in, there is a high housing demand in and around Mandurah each time ive attended a viewing there have been at least 4 other families looking too. I have to live regional otherwise I would have widened my search. Looking at some more this week so keeping positive Thanks for your replies
  6. Im not allowed to register my visa at my friends address because its not regional . I need a regional address in the next 2 weeks , going to apply for everything on offer ive lowered my expectations now forget the pool anything will do until we get on our feet
  7. Been here 2 weeks now . Cant register my 489 visa until I have a regional address currently living with friends near rockingham. Cant find full time position till ive registered my visa so stuck both ways really. Applied for 7 rentals not got any because I haven't got a full time job? Also applied for lots of jobs online think its going to be a lot more difficult than I anticipated wife and kids arrive in 4 weeks container arrives in 5 so im really under pressure .
  8. Can anyone advise if my 18 year old son would be able to apply for an apprenticeship considering we are on a 489 temp visa?
  9. we were advised by shipping agent to run the machine on a hot wash with zoflora in it so the tube smells of disinfectant on arrival. that's what I did , it hasn't arrived so hoping all will be ok
  10. thanks for your replies I will keep posting
  11. Hi Its Andys wife here , this site has been a lifeline to our family for the past 8 months so I thought id update you all on his progress 1 week in. He flew out with our eldest daughter (16yrs old) last sunday and they have covered such a lot in the past 7 days. They are staying with friends 30 mins from mandurah. We have to live regional on our 489 visa so we chose Mandurah due its size hoping there will be plenty to do for kids. He drove to Mandurah on tuesday and saw a plasterers van, phoned the number and the got a start with an English guy. He starts this week so no problem at all getting a job. This site is full of great information but you must remember not to take it as gospel. Ive been really worried reading posts that there is little work around etc and a few plasterers really struggling. Andy said there were 11 plasterers jobs in the local paper yesterday. It is of course down to your individual job but the general opinion is that work is plentiful. Our container left Manchester on October 7th it is due to arrive in fremantle on nov 15th so securing a rental is important asap. Ive just booked flights for 21st nov for the rest of us so hoping a house is sorted by then. He has viewed 5 houses so far in halls head and meadow springs , there were a few other families viewing so hes not confident that he will get one of them. Hes applied for all the houses, problem is everyone applies then its down top which application gets chosen and with us being on a temp visa that might go against us. Just hope he hears from one this week. He is going into perth tomorrow to register the visa. Bank account sorted yesterday, so easy I opened a BANKWEST account online and he just went along with his ref number and passport and the bankcard is on its way. They are both loving WA ive had lots of photos of them on beaches at BBQs etc and they have said how lovely the people have been and really helpful everywhere they've been. Couldn't have hoped for a better start will just be glad when all our family are re united in our new hometown. Regards Diane

  13. hi nancy , nicky it does seem ages ago now when we were all worrying . Ive been offered a job already!! Been to mandurah today really pleased with it, planning on settling in Halls Head I just need to secure a house rental now then the family can book flights and hopefully arrive within the next 4 to 5 weeks.
