  1. Hi Sam, we are currently in Preston, UK. We have been planning this move since March 2012 so have been planning for 2 years as well. We sold our house last year at a loss. Our visa was granted in June last year but we didn't have enough money to make the move straight away so we have been living with my parents for the last 9 months and saving like mad. Seems to have been a very long journey to get to this stage. I can't believe it is only a couple of weeks away. I'm soooo excited. We are moving to the Joondalup area first in the northern suburbs. Where are you aiming to go? Hollie
  2. Hello, My husband and I are emigrating in 3 weeks, we are literally taking a couple of suitcases and that's it. Everything else has been sold. Is there anything we should take in our cases that we might not have thought about that you wish you had taken or took and were really glad you did?
  3. Hello, My husband and I are emigrating to Perth on the 17 March, flying from Manchester with Singapore airlines. 3 weeks and 3 days to go. VERY excited! :laugh:Anyone else going in March?
  4. Hi John, please can you give me an overview of how moneycorp works? I am emigrating from the uk to perth in March 2014 and will need to transfer some money from my uk bank account to my australian bank account however I do not know the exact amount I will need to transfer. It depends on a number of things, how much I can save between now and then, redundancy payout at work etc etc. Thanks
  5. I'm currently looking for some emigration insurance to cover us for when we set off to Perth and for the first couple of weeks. I have come across go-walkabout.co.uk. Just wondered if anyone had used them before and if they thought they were any good and what cover they offered is reasonable?
  6. Hello, My husband and I are planning on emigrating to Perth in March. We have no furniture to take and are only planning on taking a few personal items such as photographs, books, wooden carvings from holidays we have been on etc. Has anyone else shipped a few items like this or plan to only ship a small amount? How have you gone about it? I have received quotes from removal companies to have the items boxed up and shipped over. Is this the best way to go about it? Or are their cheaper ways? Also how long before you fly to Oz do you have to have this arranged with the removal company? Does anyone have any ideas? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  7. Hi guys, This is my first post, so please bear with me while I get use to it. My husband and I are moving to perth early next year. I have looked into lots of different accommodation types already. We have sold our house and all of our belongings so we need to rent somewhere fully furnished. I just wondered what people have done or are planning to do when arriving in Australia? Do people rent short term accommodation first and if so for how long before they start to look at long term accommodation? We were planning to go into short term accommodation first for a month or 2 to give us time to find long term accommodation but they are quite dear and just wondered if anyone had arrived in perth and gone straight into long term accommodation? Any advice or pointers would be great. Thanks.
