judy
I received this info after complaining that we have to pay AUD 1,199.00 for our clearance. I was wondering if anyone out there has had to pay the same amount. This is from Santa Fe Ridgways. I think it is outrageous but can't think of what to do about it. "When your goods enter Australia, Quarantine will treat your consignment as a high risk. For this reason 100% of all personal effects are subject to mandatory Quarantine Inspection. Quarantine will check for live insects such as spiders and borer insects as well as soil and dirt contamination. The soil on a simple pair of sneakers may contain bacteria or disease which could wipe out Australian Crops. Make sure all your sporting, camping and garden equipment are spotlessly clean. Kindly note that the amount we invoice to shippers is made up of many factors that it takes to clear a personal effects and motorcycle into Australia. Our warehouse staff must unload, attend and then re-load the shipment after it has been inspected at our quarantine approved premises by Australian Quarantine Officers who attend . For this service there is a minimum fee of a per cubic meter rate charged on every shipment we handle for Interdean plus a standard container rate. We also pay a licence to have quarantine approved premises as well as the fee that system we must report to Australian Quarantine and the paperwork involved. All these services of course have an associated cost that have been averaged out and are covered by our Quarantine Inspection Fee's. For this reason we have a tariff rate in place with Interdean for what it costs to clear shipments through quarantine. They can either include this in the amount you pay them for shipping to Australia or you can pay us direct when you are here for this service, in this case it appears it is the latter." frosties
That seems a hefty fee, i thought it was $480 for a 20ft container plus any charges for cleaning. Are you also paying them to deliver your consignment?
drhebden
Oh doesn't sound good...we are using Santa Fe too - just pending visit and quote from John Masons next week. Checking over details in previous quotes I had from Crown And PPS, both had clearance fees included. Crown states 'normal' clearance fees so makes me wonder what this means exactly. Response sounds bit odd to me - sounds like you had choice to exclude or include these fees and you chose to exclude upfront? With Crown and PPS this wasn't discussed as something to opt out of....
