Hi everyone...... OK after many years of chipping away at my wife she has finally come round to the idea of emigrating to Perth.

I have been looking on line to find some information regarding slickline, well services work, but have been struggling to see anything.

My questions are what is the pay like for a slickline supervisor?

If the positions are FIFO, whate are the rotations like?

Any info greatly appreciated.....

Do you live in Aberdeen? If so there is an expo at the Hilton Treetops mid November (sorry not sure of the date) in which Australian companies in the Oil and Gas sector are basically looking for staff. I am sure you will find agencies there too who would represent many companies. Who do you work for at the moment? Do they not have a base in WA? I have heard you are more likely to get a good FIFO rota and salary if you transfer from a uk company rather than go for a 457 visa applying direct to Oz companies.........good luck

Thanks for the info about the Treetops i will have a look to see when it's on and hopefully be at home for it. I currently work for Qserv and at the moment they have nothing in Oz, closest place is Malaysia. I've heard some of the companies will sponsor you to go down, sort visas, accomodation when you arrive and costs towards a shipping container however they then want to tie you into working for them for 3 years.

I'm confident my wife would love it in australia but her having never visited before, if for some reason she hated it and I was tied in for years could cause a problem.

I will have a look into 457 visas that way i could do consulting work.

Thanks again for the info Lara24 and i'll post back with an update at some point.

We are currently going through the 176 visa process which is for PR. I have never been to Oz either so can relate to your other half. Is there anything with-in the Aker Group in WA for you? I had a look on the SOL but Slickline is pretty specialised, not sure if you would get away with applying under petroleum engineer or one of the others on the list. Peak seem to be pretty big and are always looking for Slickline Engineers, try contacting them here:

It may be possible for you to get a 121 visa through their sponsorship and that would give you PR with pretty much no obligation so if you needed to move company, state or back to the uk you would be able to. I know there is A LOT or work happening next year which will mean a lot of drilling and work for you so am sure there will be a way if you want it enough. Having been to an expo earlier this year myself the companies there seemed to know the best way to get the people that they needed a visa so hopefully you will get something from that. If you are going to be offshore at the time I am sure they could e-mail you a list of who will have stands there and you could at least contact them by e-mail or phone......

Best of luck. By the way do you have any kids? We have a 3 year old and another on the way and my husband will probably have to do 2/2 if we make the move. Bit scary being alone in a strange country with 2 kids......

JACKBOOTS- Although i do work on BP installations I am not employed directly through BP, they contract out the work. I served my time as a mech fitter so could maybe go down that route but it's been a few years since i done that type of work so probably wouldn't be looked at due to no recent experience.LARA24- The expo at the treetops is on the 16th Nov 10am -4pm if anyone is interested, they are also doing NZ and Canada on the same day. I will be home for this so defo going to have a look. How far are you through the visa process?? When you looking to go across?? Has your OH got a job lined up, what is it he does?I spoke to peak a while back and they asked me to send my cv, which i did but i think they are looking for people with the right to work in oz already. Realistically it would be the end of 2012 at the earliest before we could go, so iwill see what happens at the expo and let you know.I have 2 young kids as well son is 2 and daughter 4 months and we live close to both sets of grandparents so they help out a lot which the wife wouldn't have over there. Cost of living looks quite scary especially the price of houses now..Good luck and keep me posted

I was at the Oz expo at the treetops in aberdeen last week (sorry if i gave anyone the wrong time) but it was mainly design engineers that they all seemed to be desperate for, the place was packed though.

RachP- Thanks for the heads up with email adress, sent in my cv so will see what comes out of that.

ang- Not too sure about the mines side of it, drillers offsider, plant operator etc, offshore wise does he have a trade? if he does possibly that route or if not roustabout or try service companies as trainee wireline, coil, pumping, tree hand, completions, e-line or steward. The oil industry is all about who you know and not what you know. hope this helps
