  1. Thank you for organising Louise. We came away feeling like we have made new friends #happydays
  2. 31st is in my diary! Will take soccer/afl balls for the older kids.
  3. Thank you for organising today Lou. Hope to see you all again soon as it is lovely to speak to people who are on a similar timescale into settling as we are & can therefore appreciate how we are all feeling & managing with the various ups & downs of emigration. All the best to everyone, Elaine.
  4. I'd like to join you all with my OH & sons. We've been so busy getting settled that we haven't had too much opportunity to meet people. See you at 11.
  5. No, this was only April gone in what looked like new offices in the job centre. Can't find the address, but as it can be done on-line it seems of no value anyway. I could look for it though if anyone needs it.
  6. I wish I'd known that! We trekked into perth CBD to the office in the forest place shopping centre, only to be told they aren't open at certain times on various days including that day. Luckily a worker agreed to come out of the back office after some declarations of dissatisfaction from myself to photocopy my passport & rental agreement while I wrote my address down. I got the impression I wouldn't have mattered if we'd never bothered!
  7. I was sponsored as a primary teacher by WA & granted only last September so I agree Rossmoyne they must know something we don't for the future.
  8. Ah! Thanks Rossmoyne! That explains why WA are still sponsoring teachers...having teachers in place when they need them sounds like a good tactic. I had noticed quite a few retirements back in the UK too. I like this news as it gives me new hope for the future!
  9. It has also been made more difficult by a government freeze on ALL posts until July! Hoping for it to be lifted then. Fingers crossed.
  10. Great post Bridges! Having just gone through it all too, the key is definitely take it all in your stride. We relaxed when the boys got into school as this was a worry for them. I also agree with the huge outgoings... So glad we have a little money behind us or I'd be stressed as we are still trying to get jobs. Not easy when the government put a freeze on jobs until July & we would both be looking for a gov. Job! Still it'll happen! Good luck with your journey!
  11. Hi Debs, so you decided to arrive just as the cooler weather set in too! That cold front was a bit of a shock, but it's been lovely again this last few days & it is so nice to enjoy the great outdoors. We are in Baldivis. My boys are settled into school here. Stock land is handy, but I also like how close Rockingham is when I want more choice of shops. Have you been to Serpentine falls yet? Lovely place for a walk with a view. We had a great day up there, though it's a long way up (only an hour, but felt like longer at times!) Hope you r managing ok without your stuff, I know it was hard for us. Should have stayed in the holiday rental really, but had to consider the extra cost! Let me know how you r getting on!
  12. Hi all! It's been a while, but after landing in Perth on 8th April, we have been so busy either completing forms, finding a house and applying for jobs, that I've been too tired to read or even post a thread. In fact for the first month we had no wifi so all tasks had to be done via iPhone. Not good! In the first few weeks I was flat out asleep by 9pm, especially when we sat in our rental with only the contents of our suitcase! So glad the day we got our belongings & wifi-double the happiness with access to FaceTime! Still, between the tricky days, we have enjoyed fabulous days on the coast and in the Perth Hills with our boys. What an amazing place! It is certainly worth the wait & stress/worry. Still need to secure jobs, but looking positive. Next...making friends, the hardest part of all I think as there's no denying it takes time, but hey, we're here so have plenty of that now we are not jumping through hoops getting ID cards for this that & the other! Good luck to all the newbies & I'll help where I can!
  13. Rob, this is all we need to hear! Excited.com
  14. Sunshinebee we are flying from Newcastle. It really depends on which day of the week that you ask me to my answer re where! Possibly Baldivis/wellard, but then again it could be Willetton/leeming.....or...Ellen Brook! 3 totally different suburbia so I'm going to be all over in our first 2/3 weeks!! Trouble is I like them all for different reasons! What about you?
  15. It is so exciting isn't it! We leave 5 weeks today! It's schools that are causing me the biggest headache though we haven't got jobs, I'd like the boys settled but every school I've been in touch with tells me they can only fit my eldest in! So annoying! However, it's a bit chicken and egg situation though as I think we need to get a rental near to school, but don't know where we will end up as I hear the rental market is tough too! Still it'll all work itself out in the end...
