I'm a homesick mum!

Busy Lizzy

Recommended Posts

Hi my name is Elizabeth, I'm 39, renting in Rossmoyne with my Husband Greg 42, and our boys aged 7 and 11.

I would really like to meet other mums from the UK. The people I have met so far have been really friendly and welcoming, but I would really like to meet up with other Brits who know what it's like to have the occasional homesick wobble!

We have left friends back in the Uk that we would go out with for the day. It takes time to build up similar friendships.

We love Perth and everything it has to offer, but it's really hard leaving family (even with Facetime!). Does anyone feel the same? Fancy meeting up over a cuppa? With or without Kids / Husbands!

Thanks for reading,

Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth

I have been here 12 weeks and still have my homesick wobble, which I now think is quite the norm. I am 42 married to Pete who is 41 and we have three kids, James 14, Tom 12 and Emily 9 (Emily is more a tom boy thanks to the influence of her two older brothers).

I actually find it quite difficult to talk to family and friends at home as it brings back what I am missing, but I do love living here. The kids have all settled into school really well and Pete is actively job hunting. Its also nice that the weather has started to become a bit more settled.

We are in Scarborough which is a bit further South than you, but we can always meet up half way for a coffee. Please feel free to pm me if you want to chat.

hiya Lizzy

please don't worry too much about the wobbles, its normal. I've been here 14 months and still sometimes for no rhyme or reason I get them. Although when I delve deeper its nothing really to do with Perth but just seems that way, for me at least.

as they say, it takes a lot of ingredients to make a cake!!

Im not too far from you, I'm in Melville. I've a couple of brilliant girlfriends, we meet at least once a week plus all do family stuff at a weekend.

I'm not always sure of what I'm doing, but by all means if you fancy a coffee give me a shout

Hi Elizabeth

We have been here 16 months and I still get homesick.

I have made friends, but no really good friends for just to go out for a quick coffee or chat with.

I live in Willetton, so quite close to Rossmoyne.

If you fancy meeting up that would be lovely.

I'm Sarah 39 and I have 2 children 8 & 10 (Girl and Boy).

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for getting in touch. Perth Poms has been fantastic for meeting great people. I would really like to meet up with like minded people, I will PM you. I am feeling happier and my family are settling, but it is a fragile happiness, it doesn't take much to feel unsettled. That's when I miss my family the most. It's really good to connect with new friends who feel the same.

We're in Duncraig. Been here over a year but our socialising has had to take a back seat as we've been working 7 days a week more or less since we got here. (We're on a business visa hence the lack of spare time) :-(

Would love to meet up with new people nearby. Am going to try to make it to the Burns Beach meet this Saturday if anyone's interested in coming too.

I'm 39. Hubby 41. 1 daughter 15 and 3 sons 14, 10 & 8 :-)

Hi Elizabeth,

I totally understand where you are coming from. I, too am going through a really hard time at the moment, after just visiting the UK,

for the first time in 5 years and I have never felt so homesick as I do now. (Although I would not go back to live in the UK).

I miss the closeness of family and friends that I grew up with! I have made friends here, but its not the same, because you

don't have that history with them. I still feel like the new girl at school most of the time!!!!!!:wideeyed:

Christmas is hard, too, especially when all your friends and neighbours are Australian and have all their family

around them. I totally understand how you feel. We do sit here at Christmas and feel like Billy no mates, but we try and

laugh about it and look on the bright side, at least we don't have to run here, there and everywhere trying to please all

our relatives!!!!!!!! We can do what we like!

I see that you have had other replies, we all are a bit far apart, but maybe we could all meet up in Perth city for

lunch one day?? Be lovely to meet other Mums in the same boat!

Please feel free to PM me if you want to chat more

 Sharon

Hi Elizabeth,

My name is Kelly and I'm 34 years old. I'm living in Riverton with my husband Jay, 36, and our 2 children aged 3 and 16 months. We've been living in Perth for 2 years now and like you, love Perth and what it has to offer our family. I would love to catch up over a cuppa! It'd be lovely to meet someone in a similar situation to me that knows about the homesick wobbles and being far away from friends and family.

I hope to heart from you soon,

Kelly

Hi Lizzy and LouLouI am in Yangebup, been here in Australia since 15/11/13 with my partner and 3 kids, girls are 14 and 13 and little man is 5. would like to meet up with anyone that needs a chat, coffee, gossip...anything!! Found it really hard over the holiday season missing friends and family and although I love it here, dealing with mine and everyone else's homesickness (if that is a word!!) has taken its toll and I can feel the need for my mates and parents back home. I didn't realise how hard it would be to start a whole new life from scratch at this time of the year.Kay (39)

Hi Elizabeth

My name is Louise, I am a single mum with a 9 yr old daughter.

I will be in Karrinyup or North beach in the next few weeks (just securing a rental) and feeling wobbly about going it alone with my daughter away from my friends who we have been sharing with since we arrived in September. I'd love to meet up for a get together. It will be nice to talk to other brits, we will understand how each other feels.

PM me if you would like to meet up.

Louise

Hi Ladies,

I'm Louise, a single mum with a 9 year old daughter looking to make some new friends for support, coffee and chats. It's been really hard for myself and my daughter since we arrived in September. We will be moving to Karrinyup/North Beach area in the next week or so and I'd really like to have some friends in the area. My daughter will be going to Karrinyup or North Beach primary school and I'd really like some friends for her as she is getting a little down occasionally due to missing her friends in the UK like myself.

I have spent a lot of the time very teary and wondering if I've made the right move however I have a good full time job and my daughter and I really like the lifestyle here so I feel we need to give it a little longer and build up a network of friends and then I feel life will be a little easier.

I'd love to meet up for wine, coffee, a cuppa, lunch or playdates with the children. From reading the posts above I think we are all in the same position and could do with a little support. My mobile number is 0419575566, I'd love to hear from you.
