  1. We have used Mark Nolan at Sense Financial services (mark@sensefs.com.au). He has been really patient and given heaps of advice. They are very central to Perth in Leederville.
  2. Hi Andrea, I would love to meet up for a coffee. Any Saturday morning? I will Pm my contact details. I have made some really good friendships through PP and Perth is feeling more like home for me at the moment. Elizabeth
  3. I'm sorry I always laugh at these ads because they are so 'over the top'. At the end of the On tele as he goes to turn all the lights off - because he's thrifty. It reminds me of my husbands obsession with low energy light bulbs. We are getting LED bulbs now OMG! My kids didn't 'get' why how the accent related to being in Oz either. So now they sing with it when it comes on the radio, because it so stupid.
  4. Hi Nollie, It's a massive plus to have your brothers already here. Will you see them a lot if they are spread out? I always 'mull' things over for a while. If you need to, think it over and again for good measure. Make lists. Whatever you do it'll be an adventure! Where are thinking of settling? Good luck!
  5. We could meet up at Raffles one night?
  6. Hi, I don't know if you've seen other posts on the forum, mentioning that on your flight into the country with PR you can get double the luggage allowance. I don't know much about it, but it might be a better solution. Best to ask the airline you hope to fly with.
  7. Hi, Thanks for getting in touch. Perth Poms has been fantastic for meeting great people. I would really like to meet up with like minded people, I will PM you. I am feeling happier and my family are settling, but it is a fragile happiness, it doesn't take much to feel unsettled. That's when I miss my family the most. It's really good to connect with new friends who feel the same.
  8. Hi Chris, I had a big clear out and the mother in law was very keen to get rid of everything 'cant you buy that in Oz?' was the standard question. Suffice to say despite supplying Oxfam with a lot of new stock we still rammed a 40ft container with our own personal brand of junk! If I had had a German car (VW, BMW, Audi) I would have brought it with us. Sadly (but sensibly) we left the 11 year old Focus! We brought our metal car trailer - what a money pit! Money to register to import, space on the container (money), money to get it's own registration, money to decontaminate - despite being pressure washed, money to buy a permit to move, nightmare! It also got damaged in the move as well! So no trailers in my opinion. This may have sounded like a moan but not intended - as on the whole, if the Trailer fiasco was the worst thing to go wrong, I'm OK with that. The rest of our stuff was great, it arrived and felt like Christmas. I am still missing other stuff I got rid of, but I am a bit of a hoarder. I hope this helps.
  9. Jo Your party was great. Thanks for all the effort you put into the food and entertainment, it really showed! I met some really genuine people, hopefully some future friends!
  10. Good luck Vijay. Have you tried the Perth Transit app for your phone? It allows you to plan a trip on public transport from one location to the other, and gives you routes and times for buses and trains. If your interested google Trans Perth, I think.
  11. Can we get UPC windows in Perth? We are hoping to buy a house and would like nice new windows.
  12. We have been here as a family of 4 since beginning of August. My husband came ahead to start his job at the beginning of May. He is on $99k, our rent is $550 per week, we bought one little car to start with and living on one wage has been do able. With two boys before the container arrived we were looking for things to do cheaply if it rained! Kings park is free and fantastic! My boys like Rio Tinto at K.park and Synergy Dinosaur park and the treetop walk way at K.park. We bought a seasons pass for Scitech and they love it there. We also bought season passes to Adventureworld which is great now the weather has changed. Both seasons passes paid for themselves by four visits. Fortunately I got a temporary job this week, yippee! The freedom that comes with it is fantastic. We can afford to run a second car, Xmas presents and all the different insurance we need! I found loads of jobs to apply for, I work in admin so it may vary for other fields. I just wanted something so I googled 'Perth part time au' (not interested in jobs in Scotland!). Websites that are really good are Seek, Indeed, Wa government. As far as childcare is concerned your school may have before and after school clubs through Oshclub. Again google it if your interested. Our school has only become up and running since this current term. I haven't used it yet but, rang up they told me they have spaces five days a week. You register with your bank details. Then let the school office know when you need to used the club, and you get invoiced. I found it hard to start with in Perth because it takes time to find the bargains and budget. Catching the bus or train is do able, there is a phone app that helps you plan your journey google 'transperth'. I must say though getting my car has transformed the Perth experience for me. I thought I would share our experience. I realise everyone is different, but I hope it helped.
  13. Hi Cassie, We are Sor, I will Pm you with my contact details. I'm always up for a cuppa! Elizabeth
