Glenlivet
Flying out to Perth beginning of Jan, yippie! Just started contacting shipping agents etc. Have practical question for all you seasoned movers: we plan to pack house contents 5 days prior to flying out, is that enough lead time? On average, how long will agents take to pack?
Nikkis2000
Hi Glenlivet, How soon you pack and send everything really depends on your preference of having your stuff fairly soon after you arrive in Perth, and therefore doing without this end for a few weeks. Or vice Versa. We fly on the 6th Jan. PSS are arriving on the 2nd to start packing and the container leaves on the 3rd. For us we needed to keep hold of everything until the last minute (because we're hosting Xmas) so we will "camp" once we arrive. When we were talking to agents 2 days to pack and load was about average (unless of course you have a huge house and loads of stuff!) Hope that helps. SJT
Hi We had our house packed up on the Thursday and they loaded the container on the Friday at which point we moved into a hotel, container went to Port Friday night and left the Sat, we flew out on the Monday. We had an eight week holiday let and were in our long term rental for only two nights before our container arrived. I think its personal choice but depends on what you can do during the time ie borrow stuff off relatives/friends/move into relatives/friends home or stay in a cheap hotel after the container has left your home to when you fly out. Good luck with the move and it will come so quick. Sarah
Glenlivet
Brilliant, thanks for replies! We're hosting NYE so need things till last minute, camping at friends for few days after container loaded, before we fly. Have friends/family in Perth so short term accommodation sorted before we find somewhere long term. Nikki - we fly 9th!
Nikkis2000
Sounds like we're doing things very similarly! We're stopping with MIL once the container has gone and with OH's family when we arrive. The only additional thing we need to do is take the cats to Heathrow on NYE - we figured it would be easier to pack the container if they were already on their way! Whereabouts will you be staying once you arrive? We're going to be up in Chittering for a few weeks but have a potential rental sorted in Ellenbrook. bugsyburrell
Or do like we done......only two days before departing!! Maybe stressed but at least I'm comfortably stressed?
sunflower
We are planning to fly to Perth in march. I was thinking of starting to pack slowly. Like summer clothes, extra linens and towels, books. Is it too early? I dont want to leave everything to the last minute.

We'll be SOR but will eventually be based NOR in Western Suburbs. That's the plan for time being, all dependant on schools etc. Good Luck with your move!
