sun_seeker_from_scotland
Hi, Could someone please clarify what we would pay in a house rental?? We saw on a website a breakdown of payments including water usage, water rates, council rates, electricity, gas, building and contents insurance (from http://www.aussiemove.com/costofliving) My sis lives in Sydney and she has just informed us that they pay the rental price and their bills (gas and electric) only. If anyone can give us a wee breakdown of what they pay it would be much appreciated. Thanks :>)
nicolac34
From what I've seen most rent includes council rates and water, you just need to pay for gas and electricity (and phone and broadband if you want that too). Contents insurance will be your responsibility as well, although I've found it loads more expensive than in the UK. At home we paid £176 a year, out here I've been quoted $950 for similar cover! We live in a 2 bed Unit and our Electricity is about $80 per quarter when air con isn't on, and $160 per quarter when it is. Gas seems to be around $100 per quarter. We have a mobile wifi dongle thing that is $40 per month and don't need a phone line.
