  1. Hi, Just wondering if their are any mums with a wee one starting Kindy at Somerley School in Feb and if you'd like to meet up? I've a girl turning 4 in Feb starting at Somerley and I wondered if there were any mums around my area (living in Somerley) with children due to start in Kindy? Thanks, Jen
  2. My hubby viewed a house a week after being here, I was heading out the following the week, in that time our landlord had contacted hubby saying I'd really like your family to have it you seem a very genuine person and I will also reduce the weekly cost by $50!! I think this is unheard of!! It's also a brand new build, hubby seen it on gumtree. Our landlord is polish and is lovely, also he didn't want a bond which was a bonus! We will be moving in this week - Clarkson (across from ocean keys). From what I have heard it seems that private is the way to go, people I've spoken to that have rented private (gumtree) seem to all have positive stories with nice landlords. Good luck to everyone reading this thread on securing a rental, it is a daunting thought but I've certainly heard more positive than negative since arriving here!
  3. Hi, I've always had a mobile hairdresser at home, alot more stress free with a 3 yr old than a trip to a hairdresser! I'm just wondering if their are any mobile hairdressers on here who are looking for customers?? Staying in Clarkson (right across from the Ocean Keys Centre). Thanks
  4. Had a wee chuckle at the above posts - ssooo true you ditch everything thinking I'm off to Oz no way will I need any of this thick clothes! But it is chilly in the morning and evenings def need some sort of heaters but still warm in the afternoons (well for me anyway only been here 4 weeks) but feel it gets cold all of a sudden! The other day it was lovely and I thought god this is like a summers day in Aberdeen and it's bloody winter - loving it! Checked weather today folks and it says 22 degrees for sun, ace!
  5. Hi Miriam, Thanks for getting in touch with this info sounds great and I'd love to be a part! I shall go pm you my email to keep in touch! See you soon!
  6. Ours due to arrive on the 6th July too and told up to 2 weeks after that for delivery, arrghhhh! Hope it doesn't take any longer! Can't wait to get our stuff and settle into our new home! )
  7. Hi, I'm moving to Clarkson in a few weeks time and I'm looking for things to do in and around the area with my 3 year old girl so I can meet with mums in the area, just wondering if there is any1 on here living in Clarkson with young children who would like to meet and have you been to the 'play and stay' on a Mon morning at the primary school? Also, I'm looking into work too so I will need childcare/day care when I get something, can you recommend any1/recommend who not to go with?!! Thanks and look forward to meeting up with people when I move! Jen
  8. Hi, heres a link I got off this site a while back, hope this helps! http://www.careforkids.com.au/ Jen
  9. Yeah it sure is, all decisions decisions at their age eh! Great they are up for the move tho, hopefully they will have more opportunities over here and love it! My daughter is only 3, only have 1 child so schooling hasn't really been a big factor for us right now, so that has taken some stress off the move as it must be so hard the older your kids get to move. I wish you all luck with your big move. Speak soon, Jenna
  10. Hi Emma and you're more than welcome We're all in the same boat here not knowing anyone, where to go to meet folk etc! I'd be more than happy to meet with you when you arrive, I shall pm my email and num and if theres anything you would like to ask just ask away happy to help with anything as I was the same had so many things going through my head and everyone so healpful on this site, it's great! Good luck with moving over and getting settled and look forward to meeting up! Jenna
  11. Hi Everyone, We're currently on the house hunt and have been offered a house in Clarkson and we have also seen a few more there that we like the look of (still to be viewed though). I was always a bit like oh it's too far north, however, we are living in Woodvale just now (very nice suburb folks) and it's only like 10 -15 mins to get to Clarkson from here with Joondalup just 5 -10 mins away and the train line is around the corner from the houses we are looking at. This would make it such an easier commute into city for my hubby as he could just jump on the train right to town without worrying about walking, short bus run then train just to get to work! We were up by today and now having seen all the area, houses, shops etc I do now like the idea of living there. I'm just interested in knowing if there are alot of fellow poms living up that way?? If any1 does, do you have children at nursery/school and what do you think of them? Is there much activities going on at a community centre? Also groups that I could attend with my 3 year old girl? I'd be very grateful of any info regarding this suburb and look forward to meeting up with families in the very near future. Thanks, Jenna
  12. Hi Ally, Hows things down under? I arrived on Mon of this week! Are you all settle in then and the kids? We are on the house hunt just now, looking north so hubby can jump on train straight into work in the city centre. Would be happy to meet up tho, I'm not working just now so any time throughout the week I'm free. Let me know if you fancy meeting/what day is best and we can decide what to do and see if anyone else would like to meet to. Speak soon, Jenna
  13. I agree, lol! Wouldn't really of thought about this, so much things to think of and get used to! Great info )
  14. Hi Helen, Welcome and congrats! It's so exciting when you get that job offer then it's all go as it's no more talking about it's we're going!! My hubby also works in IT (Kinetic IT) and we're over on 457 visa, All happened so quick visa came through in 6 working days then it was all go! That's Steven done 2 weeks and settling in fine. I just came out on Mon and I've had a good past few days and getting a feel for the place. Just on the house hunt just now, just hoping house, me finding work and childcare all fits in, gonna be positive tho, it will! You will find this site very helpful, I sat for hours on end reading through things and everyone is so helpful, always seems to be an answer for questions asked. If theres anything you want to ask just ask away. All the best to you all and I'd be happy to meet up, like everyone on here we're all looking to meet folk and get a circle of friends! Speak soon, Jen
  15. Hi Molly, I'm in Perth! Arrived on Mon evening, hubby been here/at his job now 2 weeks and settling in fine. We are on the house hunt just now, currently renting from a couple who lease out rooms staying in Woodvale (lovely area), only us staying here tho so it's fine, nice being able to have gotten the chance to be head out early and house hunt together, wasn't nice leaving separate killed the excitement a bit! The place is lovely. was out and about driving today to get used to it so feeling more confident and getting to grips sith roads etc, a lot better than driving in and around the Abdn!! I'm loving it actually (just hope house, work and childcare all falls into place ), went to a nice park yesterday and today went to the zoo, was ace! Your kids will love it my girl was pretty mesmerised by the park, so was I actually, haha! Winter here but still warm, think today was about 16 degrees, maybe a little more! heard weather rubbish in UK, nothing unusual there eh! We are looking to rent NOR it looks to be quicker using public transport commuting in from NOR than it is SOR, but I'd be happy to meet you somewhere not a problem, the zoo just 2 mins from city and I was ok doing the drive so I could easy head down your way once moved. Do you have a rough idea of when you will be heading out? Your house sold? Hope your not too stressed with everything, it'll be worth it only couple mths until we can all hit the beaches and bbq's! Speak soon! x
  16. Hi Dawn, Lovely to read, I like to read about how people are feeling, their experiences etc I just arrived on Mon, still very tired and my head feels a bit all over the place! Hubby been here 2 weeks now and settling into his work fine. I have a 3 year old girl who has been awake every night about 1am wide awake which is leaving us shattered through the day, hopefully tonight she will sleep right through so I can function tomorrow - haha! Where abouts are you living? We are currently renting from a couple in Woodvale (nice area), let the house hunting, stress and fun all begin!! I will be looking to start meeting up and getting to know some people soon so if you're free next week and fancy meeting up let me know where is good (you will know the place better than me), Thanks, Jenna
  17. We are looking to places NOR, Steven plans to take the train to work in town so we'd like to stay 20 - 40 mins at the most from town. He is beginning to get a bit nervous about getting a house secured, just hoping and praying that we score it lucky and it doesn't take forever! Do you have an idea of where you plan to settle? I plan to be there the middle of June, can't wait! Always alot of people arranging to meet up on here so we could arrange something when you get over, be great to be able to meet mums at a park or something and not having to be indoors all the time as it's raining, it's been non stop here for weeks! Good luck with all the organising etc, time will soon pass Jen x
  18. Hi Molly, Just wanted to say good luck with with the big move, I'm ssooooo excited too!! My hubby leaves 21st May and I plan to follow mid June (hopefully he can get a rental by then)! I've a wee girl of 3, every day she is asking 'when are we going on the plane to Australia, is the house ready yet' haha! Can't wait and looking forward to the outdoor life in the nice weather. This site is amazing, everyone very helpful if there is anything you need to know just ask, I spend hours just reading through everything on here it's great to see everyone being so supportive of one another. Maybe see you in our new life in Oz....... Jen x
  19. Thanks everyone for your responses, very much appreciated, it's getting closer to hubby leaving now, let all the fun, excitement combined with stress begin
  20. We've had rain (Aberdeen) for a week now on and off all day every day! , plus cold and windy, grey and dull. It's all we do up here - moan about the weather! We wouldn't care if we only got a month or 2 of decent weather a year but our summer, actually seasons! just do not exist anymore! About 7 weeks ago it was 20degrees then a couple weeks after we had snow! Now it's just miserable and we're ssoooo looking forward to moving on out
  21. Hi, The joys of telling young children...... We had just told my parents our news who are very close to our daughter (and this was her 1st grandchild which she longed for for years!!) then as we were about to leave after my mum having an emotional breakdown my daughter who has just turned 3 turned to my mum and said "grandma we are away on plane to Australia and you're not coming with us"!! Lol!! :biglaugh:This put some light on the conversation and we all had a chuckle!
  22. Hi "C&MFoy", We are also from Aberdeen and hope to be out at the end of June (house getting packed this week), hubby is heading out mid May to start work/find house. His visa was approved in 6 working days. Do you have your visa yet or still waiting? Great feeling when you get the confirmation, can't wait for the new life to begin Which area are you heading for? It appears half of Aberdeen have headed to Perth everyone I speak to knows people out there and I've heard all positive stories which fills me with confidence:biggrin: all the best to you on the big move, never know we may be bbq'in up soon!
  23. Thanks 'give me a break' and 'Tracey', we have started putting together a pack with documents for my husband to produce on viewing, my husband has a job to start on the 28th and arrives the 23rd so will be instantly earning which will hopefully help, we have 1 child she is 3 yrs old so being near to a school isn't too much of as factor just and we have family due to arrive hopefully Aug time so 1st rental will just be to get a feel for the place then we can hopefully all live close by I just wanted to ask as like everyone else on this site you view area and try get a feel for local amenities and house sizes/prices then your head gets pickled as you just don't know! Not until you're there shall you get a real feel for a place and what you want but it's nice to know if it takes forever or not and if people are finding it quick enough to secure and move into a rental - I do not want to be stuck at the parents too long!! Haha! Thanks again to both of you
  24. Hi everyone, I've already posted similar to this but no replies, can anyone help fill in this gap in my head please?........ We are looking for people to share their experiences of securing a rental - how long it takes after the opening date for them to come back to you with a yes or a no?? I believe you can only put a bond down on 1 property at a time too and you've then to wait and see (meaning you could miss out on that 1 and potentially another nice 1 you may see) - has this been a nightmare for some people? How long once you have secured a rental can you move in?? Hubby arrives 23rd May and starts work the following week, I plan to head out about 20th June (4wks later), is this a reasonable amount of time to try and secure somewhere?? Also, anyone living in and around Joondalup/Kinross area? would love to hear what you think as we have seen some nice places around there, does the place have a safe feel to it with plenty to do, looks easy for commuting and not that long either which is what we are looking for. All thoughts, views and experiences very much appreciated.
