  1. Hi Scotty Great advice by realitynotincluded, listen to that piece advice and I would reiterate his/her advice....buy a car with rego, 100%.... To add the rego is road tax and third party insurance rolled into one (I understand it to be a law, so all cars on the road are insured to at least a third party level - in theory at least!!) , so theorectically you could drive a car owned by you home if the rego is valid.....However, I would advise you get further insurance as you do in the UK from a insurance company as most people do. When you buy a car from a seller you are responsible for registering it in your name as you would do in the UK ( this 'green slip' is basically the equivalent of the UK's V5 - vehicle registration document). I think the green slip you are referring to (or it could be red - not sure) is the carbonated copy the seller gives to you at point of sale to confirm he/she has sold it to you and you are now the owner of the vehicle (you need to complete this form also). You then need to send this form off within 7 days I think it is to the DVS (details will be on the form) or they will 'fine' you. You also need to change the rego document over to you name, the DVS charge a $30-35 fee for your trouble. My best advice is once you have bought a car take the rego and the change of owner form into the local DVS and they will advise/charge you appropriately! Lastly, buy private...not a dealer,,,get some good deals on Gumtree...just make sure it's got the rego (longer the better), usual story after that.
  2. For sale is this silver 4-door Holden Viva estate petrolcar, automatic, 1.8L engine, ins class 1A. It currently has 85,109 kms on theodometer. As you can expect with most cars it has a few scuff marks, from the usual battles in the shopping centre car park – but thankfully nothingmajor. In this case the ‘bumpers’ around the car have done exactly what theywere designed for and the scuffs are confined to these areas. There is centrallocking on the vehicle but to lock all four doors this has to be done manuallyfrom the driver’s door. Tinted windows, alloy wheels, CD/radio, electricwindows/door mirrors. One advantage on this car is that it is fitted with cruisecontrol, which I find a great bonus! Full service history, including dealership service historysince my ownership, last serviced 10/09/14. Available in the 6169 area of Rockingham. Any enquiriesplease message me and I'll get back to you a.s.a.p
  3. For sale is this 5 door Daewoo Matiz Petrol car, in blue.800cc engine, Ins Class 1A. It as a 5 Speed manual gearbox and currently as183,089km’s on the odometer. As you can expect with the youth of this car it as a fewscuff marks and ‘dimples’ etc on its bodywork from the usual battles in theshopping centre car park..but nothing major. Ideal for that run-around/firstcar and is great on the fuel economy. It costs me $40 to fill the tank up andthis gets me about 540km’s!! Available in the 6169 area of Rockingham.. Any enquiries please leave message on here and we'll respond asap.
  4. Darren, love it.......a realist on here at last, am sure some people will put you down but keep it up!! You are entitled to your opinion as much as they are. Think you have summed it up beautifully, I agree family is everything!

  6. Hi Rachell We had the same experience and frustrations when we were moving over. As others have said the whole world is trying to get over here and the Australians are very good at unnecessary procedures..so try and not worry be patient... My advice would be to try and get your case ref number from DIAC before ringing them as if not that would be another grunt/gasp down the phone you may get from a very helpful Australian!! I rang them 3 times from the UK ( at all times of the night) whilst going through the visa process before getting someone on the other end who was helpful. She told me that it was actual a case of the immigration worker randomly picking out your file from an 'in tray' and looking at it, and that it was ' Pot luck' if your file happened to be chosen. So all in all ring them, they will not rush unless they have too and even then it's slow!!
  7. Hi Guys Just after some advice/tips regarding renewing my son's UK passport which is due to expire whilst here in oz. As I have said my son's ( 5 Years Old) passport is due to expire in the next few months. However, I fell off my chair when I saw how much it costs. My initial thought is why can't I apply for it from here in Australia and get one of the relatives back in the UK to send it off for us (using their address as a postal address) as though we are in the UK ( if that makes sense ) thereby saving alot of money ( not time!) in the process?? Is this possible?????? What are your thoughts??? Just wanted to throw a thought out there?? Cheers Guys
  8. Hi All Having been in oz for a month now, I am beginning the quest for work! The OH as the 'skills' required but this as left me out in 'the cold' so to speak as I have no great skills to write home about!! :-( I really fancy a driving type job and have made a few enquiries only to be 'fobbed off' or ignored. I intend to work towards the Hr/Mr licence but I understand this is a distant dream at this time, which I fully understand. As I have pointed out I have managed to negotiate a 'c' class licence out of the DVS. My appeal to you guys is.... Do any of you know anybody/any firms that would be willing to take on a POM for any type of driving job with a c class licence. Any help would be gratefully received.
  9. Andy If it's of any comfort, we have just done this ( last week). We all went to the office on Murray Street ( M, the OH and two kids) as we were picking up our bank cards afew doors down from the Migration office and heading off into Kings Park into the fantastic childrens area they have their. so it was no major dramas on that front. Having been there for a matter of 10 mins max, the 'officer' took a photocopy of our tenancy agreement and a copy of the signed sponsorship agreement. She told us that if we wanted to update anything we can do so online-excellent result. There was no need for anybody other than the main applicant attend, as was in our case ( just in case you are thinking of bobbing down as we did). So, I would say it is a personal choice if you want to attend or not, but definately whatever you do let them know of your arrival. All the best
  10. HI Craig We have just landed here in WA and loving it. I am no realestate expert......but from what I have seen I wouldn't leave it till the last minute to try and rent, whatever you do. Rentals are in big demand over here. As a general rule of thumb the closer to Perth City you are the more expensive it is. We threw the classic pin in the map and opted for south of the river as it's called. From what I understand ( I could be wrong) NOR is classed as 'posh' and SOR is less so. But, to be honest I can't see any problem/big difference...it's all nice to me...but it would be I am from Manchester originally! What we did was browse the realestate websites such as realestate.au to give us an idea what is available and at what price? Depends also if you want furnished or unfurnished. OZhouserentals was useful for furnished. Don't know about the grocery job though! Sure you will find something in your line of work ( would of thought you would have to be Perth CBD for that) take that into account when looking for houses. Oh, it is brilliant out here, you'll love it. Good luck
  11. Hi All Just landed in Oz after what seemed like ever to get in ( been here 3 weeks). Loving it so far, unfortunately the holiday head is starting to wear off and thoughts albeit very reluctantly are turning to work! The OH as got the skills visa, but I have nothing to shout about. However, looking round I am really keen on some form of driving job bus driver, taxi driver,Truck driver etc etc. I have just received my WA driving licence ( C class) and laughed like a madman as I watched the admin person at the DVS wiped all the UK driving licence Ientitlements off with a stroke of a pen ( don't get me wrong I was no expert driver or anything but it was a bit of a comfort blanket knowing that I could drive a mini bus if I wanted to- anyway back to my question!) My question is thus: How long would it take to get my MR/HR Licence from where I am now, is there a fast track process? The 'evil one' at the DVS said that I had to wait 1 Year before I could move up to the next level. Is this correct ( I have heard I can apply/do lessens before this?) Can I 'Skip' the LR licence and move straight onto the MR licence and therefore automatically get the LR Licence? I am confused with all this driving licence business. I suppose I am asking, is there anyway to get the MR licence at least (preferably the HR) in a fast way and how? Hope you guys can help
  12. Thanks for your kind reply and great advice. I'll check them out
  13. Hi The coulters. Not heading over to Rockingham 'till end of May but trying to plan ahead ( along with everything else!!) I think it's going to be like you say making the best of a bad job. It's more of a stop gap 'till we find a car really. Suppose if we get sorted with a car dropping off the hire car won't be a issue! Good luck to you guys as well, see you in the car rental office (perhaps)!!!
  14. it was through a search engine call kayak and the company it recommended was national.
