  1. Great post, loved reading about your adventure so far. We arrived early October so not much before you. We've also settled in nicely, like you said lots to do but gradually getting sorted. Little lad started kindy this week and I have met some lovely parents. Got our WA driving licences sorted, if you have any questions feel free to ask. Looking forward to a Sunday down at Hillary's beach tomorrow.. If you fancy meeting up sometime pm me xx

  4. Report post Posted Monday at 03:12 We arrived in Perth one week ago and are currently staying with relatives. We are hoping to get a rental in the Padbury area in November. Our son turned 4 early October, is there any advice on how to check school ratings and how to apply for a school / kindy place for him. In the UK he went to nursery 2 day's a week, I believe he will start at Kindy a couple of day's a week here until he turns 5 when full time school starts - Any advice welcome. Many thanks Quote

  8. Good morning all We arrived in Perth one week ago and are currently staying with relatives. We are hoping to get a rental in the Padbury area November time ready for all our belongings that should arrive early December. Our son turned 4 early October, is there any advice on how to check school ratings and how to apply for a school place for him. In the UK he went to nursery 2 day's a week, I believe he will start at Kindy a couple of day's a week here until he turns 5 when full time school starts? Any advice welcome. Many thanks
  9. So, flights and removals all booked as myself and my OH decided that we wanted to give Perth a go. It's been our dream for over 5 years now and felt we could take advantage of the fact that I can take my 12 months maternity leave from the UK. The plan was my OH would resign and we would go to Perth, he is a qualified A Class Electrician but does not have experience working in Australia as yet. The day came and he felt he could not resign from his UK job, overwhelmed by starting again at the age of 50 and now with a family to provide for (I am nearly 7 months pregnant). Therefore, removals now cancelled. I however am finding it hard to accept that we do not give Perth our best shot - after all, if all else fail's I still have a job in the UK to return to next year. Easy for me to say I know, but it felt we had a fall back plan if OH could not find work in Perth or if we just decided it wasn't for us. Now after a week of sleepless nights and OH seeing how upset I am he has said he will resign next week and we will 'go for it'. Can anyone advise how the job market is regarding A Class Electricians? I think his is his main concern and I am pretty confident once he secures a job all his worries will fade and we can start to live the dream.
  10. We have our PR Visa, hubby is looking for Security Technician Role or A Class Electrician work in the industrial/commercial sector. Does anybody know if there are many job opportunities?
  11. Thankyou for our replies, much appreciated. We have left it very late, this was mainly due to a RTA and getting back on the mend. Having said that, this made us realise how important families are to us. I truly believe we both feel Australia has so much to offer to us for a brighter future and to hopefully one day have a family of our own would be a wonderful place to bring them up. Do we just have Cold Feet - it's probably normal but having a good monthly income to then having nothing and 'hoping' we will get jobs when we land in Perth is very scary. Is there still a good demand for Electricians in Perth? We check Seek and there seems to be a good amount available but is this a true reflections does anybody know? Thanks again
  12. We have our 136 visa, which allows us to live and work anywhere in Australia - this is due to expire in December 2012. There is just the 2 of us, we have good jobs in the UK (my hubbie is an electrician and already has his A Class licence). Our dilemma is: Should we give up our good jobs in the UK to go to a new country without any jobs and no network of friends? We love the outdoor lifestyle and have a starting off fund of $40 000. Are we mad to consider leaving our jobs and possibly loosing this amount of money? Any advise welcome please as we are running out of time!
  13. Hi Rachel My other half is a Qualified Electrician and has obtained his A Grade license. We have permanent visa's and will be relocating to Perth mid November (2012) without jobs. He currently works as a Project Engineer in the Electrical Industry. Is it possible for me to PM his resume over to you for your husband to look through please? If so, please advise how I PM you?! sorry - I'm new to this forum. Many thanks
