  1. Hello, we are originally from Wishaw, Scotland but now in Solihull. We will be in Perth at the end of August....it can't come soon enough!!!
  2. Cheers Sgt - the one I have is the aussie format but I have put my UK address on it
  3. Hi JCH, thanks for the positive words!! The way you describe the aussie approach (no email preferface-to-face contact) is how it has been described to me by the agents but I'll still keep plugging away until we land!! I have arranged to meet quite a few of the major recruiters when I arrive and they said they will start circulating my CV about 1 month before I arrive so there may be a chance that, like you, I won't be out of work too long!! Out of curiousity, where in Perth are you and what is your occupation? We are staying with friends initially in Waikiki until we get a rental sorted, but where that will be will be dependant on where we get jobs!
  4. Hi Jandh, in terms of the visa, we have a 189 permanent residency visa and we did it ourselves (wife is main applicant - she works in NHS). Overall, from the point of lodging the visa it took about 6 months, however, we waited for over 3 months for my daughters medical to be cleared as it had been referred - was an extremely frustrating time! From a job seeking perspective, I am applying through agencies (mainly seek.com but also the main recruitment agents in Perth - I plan to meet them when I arrive) but I am also applying directly with companies, wither via a specific job advert or sending a speculative email with my CV. Have you had your visa granted or are you still waiting?
  5. Hello, we are moving to Perth at the end of August. I have been trying (unsuccessfully so far) to get a job before we go (I'm a Management Accountant) - which is not surprising as this is what the agents told me but I thought I'd try anyway! To help me in my search do you think it would be worth my while putting an Australian address on my CV instead of my UK address? We will initially be staying with friends when we arrive and this the address I would update it to when we arrive I'm not sure if this is a wise thing to do as I won't be in the country until the end of August so I wouldn't be able to meet any prospective employers until then! Any thoughts or wise words would be appreciated!
  6. Hello, we are also flying out on the 26th August - we are heading to Waikiki....not too far from you Who are you flying with? We are flying from Heathtow with Singapore Airlines. We are stopping off in Singapore for 3 days then heading to Perth on the 30th Aug. Good luck with the move!!
  7. Hello, I'm 34 (soon to be 35) and my wife is 35 (sorry 23....she'll kill me when she reads this!!) I'm a Management Accountant and my wife works for the NHS. We are flying out and heading to Waikiki (where we have friends)....we are both so excited to be making the move!!
  8. My daughters medical was referred, even though she had an 'A' grade medical and it took 116 days to get finalised - we got the good news last week....keep your chin up - it'll come through soon!!
  9. Thanks for your honesty Smidsy....it's better to have a reality check before you go so you can adjust your expectations once you get there! I'm CIMA qualified so not sure if this will make a difference in Perth. I have former work colleagues, who are also CIMA qualified but live on the east coast and they said that they had no issues securing a role (they do not have permanent residency status but employer sponsorship)
  10. Hello, my wife and I are travelling that day too - who are you flying with?
  11. Hi sun lovers, our flight from Singapore leaves at 9.30am so of that's your flight then we'll be on it too!!! Where in Perth are you heading? We are going to stay with friends down in Waikiki until we get settled.
  12. We are staying with friends in Waikiki (SOR) but not sure where we will end up - it will probably depend on where we get jobs!
  13. Thanks beandownunder - will keep you updated. I have been emailing and speaking to quite a few agents and they all agree that it's unlikely I'll be successful in securing a role before I go due to the fact that Perth employers like to meet the candidates face to face as opposed to offering a role after a telephone interview. Some have also said that the market is slow due to the downturn in the mining industry; coupled with the fact that their is (apparently) an abundance of candidates but not many roles - whilst others have said I'll have no issues securing a role when I get there.....fingers crossed it's the latter When are you and the family thinking of heading downunder? How far along the visa process are you?
  14. Hello, we can't contain our excitement - our 189 visa was granted yesterday and we have booked our flights We are flying London to Singapore on 26th August, spending a few days in Singapore (can't go all that way and not take in the sights....would be rude not to!!) before we fly to Perth on 30th August! My wife has organised everything, all I need to do is try and get a job before we leave - so if anyone is needing or knows of any Management Accountant roles keep me in mind:biggrin:
  15. Hi Steve, I'm a Management Accountant too; we are also flying out in August - where in Perth are you heading? Have you had a look at the job market in Perth? I have been speaking to some agents and the messages are different...some say that it's a saturated market with plenty of candidates but not enough roles but should pick up after the election in September and others say with my skills & experiences I should have no problem securing a role. What they all do seem to agree on is that it's unlikely that I'll get a job before we leave - they say that as Perth is a smaller city compared to the other Australian cities, employers (apparently) prefer to speak face-to-face with prospective employees. That's not going to stop me applying for roles though!!
  16. Hi verystormy, its Singapore Air that we are going to book with as they allow a break in your journey and still give you 40kgs from Singapore to Perth! We also knew that they provided subsidised hotels but didn't realise they were that cheap....did you have to call them or were those subsidised prices for 5 star hotels on their website?
  17. Thanks for your kind words Ali - in terms if lists and what needs to be done I'll assume my normal role and do what my wife asks me to do.....she does the organising for both of us!! We are really looking forward to Singapore - we have never been before and it has been on our list of places to go - hopefully everything will live up to our expectations!
  18. Thanks Ali, we are super excited!!! It means we can get our flights booked tomorrow morning, which means we'll be flying out on 26th August (only 9 weeks away...not that we are counting) and will spend a few days in Singapore...it will be the start of an amazing adventure for us!!
  19. We have just had the email confirming that our 189 visa has been granted.....I think I'm going to burst with excitement.....there's no chance of me sleeping tonight Look out Perth...here we come!!!
  20. She requested form 80 and payslips too for past 8 years... I think she is a by the book person! We had all the information anyway so it was no problem just an hour of scanning!
  21. Hello We have been married for 11 years (together for 16) and had to provide extra evidence of relationship (Scottish not HR country)- provided things like: car insurance cert with both names on Bank statement Mortgage statement Factor fee charge letter Emails for holidays that we had booked together
  22. Hello, just had some good news.....we have been allocated our case officer Not long now!!!
  23. Hello, my wife & I have just had our medicals Nearly there now......
  24. Hi Katespratt, good luck with your plans to move Perth - I hope they come to fruition I'm also (for my sins) an accountant (CIMA qualified) and my wife is also a Registered Nurse (although she doesn't work in a hospital or ward environment anymore!). It would be interesting to hear how you both get on in your journey and job seeking!
  25. My wife and I are moving over to Perth on a 189 Permanent Residency Visa in August. We were wondering which is the best shipping company to use? Obviously, price is a key consideration but we were also looking for a company that provide a great level of service and one that won't hit us with charges that we were unaware of! Does anyone know if it is cheaper to pack up your home yourself or have the company do that for you as part of the package? We have a 2 bed home at the moment but we are decluttering as we speak and are planning on taking just the main items and our clothing so we don't think we will need a full container to ourselves. One final question (I promise).....has anyone used 'Move Cube' to ship their worldly possesions to Australia? This seems quite inexpensive as opposed to using the more traditional mover. Thanks in advance, Alan
