The Coulters
Hi Melanie, I am also from the North East and live just outside Rockingham. There are good and bad areas everywhere. My advice would be rent somewhere short term them have a look about and get a feel for the place
Nic964
Hi Melanie, totally agree with the above. We like Rockingham, but actually live in Kwinana, which had a bad reputation, but we luv it. We found that streets close to each other can be very different in character, so rent, and have a good look around to fine somehwere your happy with. We looked at many many houses before we found one we liked, and the area does play a part in that. Rockingham generally we luv, nice large shopping centre, great foreshaw looking onto the beach. Sunday morning breakfast at Betty Blues cafe is difficult to beat, and all this at a much cheaper house price than closer to Perth. Your also close to some great beaches, and only 30 minutes drive to Perth. Best of luck, you'll like it when you get here. Nick

verystormy
Hello from a fellow Boro guy. The first thing is budget. Then where you are likely to be working. Rocky has some good and bad places the same as everywhere. Realestate.com.au will give you some ideas of price. Don't get too drawn into one area yet. All ares are different and it is not until you visit them in person that you get a feel for if an area is for you. When we first arrived we thought we would love some areas, but when we visited we immediately knew they were not for us.
The Coulters
Hi Mel I used to live in Ashington, just north of Newcastle. I now live in Baldivis which is about a 10 minute drive to the beach. Its really hard to decide what to do for the best until you get here. When are you planning to move? Henderson5
Thank you for the advice, would you recommend to stay in a hotel first till you find an area where you want to be,I do have a limited budget on rent the most I can afford is 400 dollars a week, don't know what that will get me. bugsyburrell
Hi Mel, to be brutally honest, I think you're going to struggle to secure a rental with that limit. A lot of the rentals we viewed in Baldivis were rated at $450, anything below this just wasn't worth looking at it you couldn't get in the door on opening day. Not sure in other experiences but we were told Aussies will get preference over foreigners! We had a rough idea that we wanted to settle in Baldivis so booked a holiday rental in Waikiki for three weeks thinking this should be enough time to find a long term rental. Not sure if we were being too fussy but unfortunately were running out of time so ended up paying over the top for what we budgeted for:(

I've pm'd you as we are looking at Baldivis and will be staying with family in Waikiki on arriving in Oz.
