I was wondering if there are any Teessider's over there in Perth??

If there is how are you finding it over in oz good or bad all thoughts welcome. We are looking to be over in about 18 months time visa application allowing. I am a mechanical engineer and would prefer to secure employment before arriving. Any advice or contacts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

Hi. I am from Boro.

Been in Perth nearly 6 years and enjoy it a lot.

The pluses. It is very beautiful and stunning scenery. The weather is great - late autumn here and I am sat in shorts and t-shirt. A great feeling of optimism in the feel of the place and it's people. Building our dream home - far better than we had in the UK. Love the wildlife - just been for a coffee with a mate and watched the dolphins.

Cons - pubs are poor. Beer expensive.

HI,

Sounds like you have it sorted verystormy. Us boro lads always prioritise pubs and beer . We have 2 young daughters and want to make the move for there future and a more outdoor lifestyle. It was glorious here yesterday (apart from having to paint the garden fence) and today it is torrential rain and 14 degrees lower.

I will be there next year. I was born in Boro and lived in place called Marske-by-the-sea moved when I was very young to East Yorkshire.

Very sensible to secure a job first, things are expensive here although turned around a bit from 2 years ago when we arrived & exchange rate was 1.45 to the £. Expect $500+ a week rental & $10 a pint unless you have someone to stay with. We came across on holiday & had arranged interviews while here. This was successful & flights, visa plus 1st 3 months accommodation arranged & paid for. Even then it was an ordeal but felt lucky speaking to people we met who had come without a job and were watching savings disappear. It is a big step and won't go without hiccups and worries especially when visa comes in & reality of selling house, clearing out belongings & leaving friends & family hits home. Make as many preparations to get work as you can and be warned that many employees will not even consider you serious when applying from UK but if you are prepared to attend for interviews a lot more interested. Good Luck.

Great thread. I am a Teessider. Grew up in Marske by the sea. Now live in Boosbeck, hopefully not for much longer. We r currently going through the visa process and plan to arrive early next year. My aunt from

Middlesbrough moved to Perth 15 years ago and loves it over there. We have visited her and she has a wonderful life!

Good luck with your journey :-)
