Sure, ozzies can. But it's just that they disn't adopt it like europeans did. Same with Asia, a different but similar app is popular there.

 

whatsapp works fine to text back to the uk. If you have internet, it works. It works fine with prepaid. It barely uses data just to text. Images and videos use more data. You will be fine with an occasional image though.

I occasionally use Whatsapp here in Perth and it works fine. I also use Messenger a lot and Facetime.

Hi ! I have been using Whatsapp for quite a few years. I text my sons from the UK to Perth, sometimes a few times a day. We would send photos to each other too. The first year is totally FREE. The second year, I was charged 69p for the whole year. I more than happily paid it.

i am now living in Perth & we are still using it.

 

So text away to your heart's content!
