Corinne14470
I cannot believe the lack of acknolegement from my agent - they have been so useless. I have waited for a return call since last tuesday/Wednesday (just an enquiry) and I am still waiting after numerous ridiculous phone calls and fob offs. £2.5k for this!! there, rant over! Guest annie
name and shame them. seems to me like there are quite a few people taking advantage of people coming to make a better life for themselves in Oz. Rental agents are also included. Still thinking of the lady who got free advertising on this site recently who suggested that we pay extra rent to secure a rental. So keep ranting. They are working FOR you!!!!

PerthPomToBe
Offering to pay more rent on a property is unfortunately a very common occurrence over here. There is a serious shortage of rentals available and some people will do just about anything for the right house.
Guest JennyH
We used 4-corners in sydney. couldnt recommend them enough. even tho it was my husband getting his 457 and he was over there, they had no problem taking phone calls from me. very reassuring, prompt, professional, friendly and just made everything seem easy. and most importantly, always returned our calls, or called when they said they would. I have to agree that unfortunately it is the way with the shortage of rental properties and massive influx of people just now. I know some friends who had to pay 6 months rent up front to secure their property in Secret Harbour which is just ludicrous. Hard work and patience worked for us 27 viewings, 7 applications and accepted on our 3rd one, but it took 5.5 weeks of continuously looking full time for me, I couldn't work/look for a job as that WAS my full time job until we found one. It is well worth it in the end though. Our migration agent was really good I will post details of who they are when I can find them!

HI Corinne Is you agent registered with http://www.mara.gov.au ? I am interested to know this. Do not sack your agent though as your Service Agreement may not allow for you to have your money refunded? Chase them up and advise them that you are disappointed with the way they are acting for you, Good luck

Hi Corinne Are you using a Registered Migration Agent? Please check the Register via the link below: https://www.mara.gov.au/agent/ARSearch.aspx?FolderID=394 If you are using an RMA then threatening to complain to the OMARA about poor service from your RMA should assure you of immediate attention from your RMA at all times in the future. (Albeit that it is also likely to ensure minimal assistance from and maximum disgruntlement on the part of the RMA. Nonetheless, the threat should be effective enough.) https://www.mara.gov.au/Consumer-Information/Making-a-complaint-about-a-RMA/default.aspx Obviously, the OMARA encourage dialogue between Client and RMA ahead of any formal complaints. However it takes two to hold a dialogue and one of the two seems to be unwilling to hold such a dialogue, from what you say! Also, the relevant legislation contains no requirement for dialogues. It sounds as if your Agents have now answered your query. Did they delay responding to you because they were waiting for the confirmation themselves? If so, their reluctance to communicate is perhaps understandable although that does not make it excusable, in my view. If I charge a client £2,500 for doing their domestic conveyancing for them, I roll out the Red Carpet and deal with every contact with the client myself instead of leaving it to an assistant. Domestic conveyancing is unbelievably boring but £2,500 tends to overcome its shortcomings, I feel! Corinne14470
ohh Gill, like you say it is resolved now and I have just said please just acknowledge me as that is all I ask. I really was upset and astonshed by their lack of contact and there was no reason. Here's to a happy arranegment in the future. I have not been rude (or anything similar) to them so that made me upset that I was treat like that. Fingers crossed and thanks for the info

I have not been rude (or anything similar) to them so that made me upset that I was treat like that. Fingers crossed and thanks for the info Hi Corinne I envy your agents! Some (not all) of my own clients have read the poster that says, "Smile and the world smiles with you Snarl and you get better service." Ergo working out the priorities in which I will do things is usually a matter of judging which clients are the least likely to snarl at me if their matter doesn't receive immediate attention and at least the courtesy of a holding reply. Once, when I was newly-qualified, a colleague was off on hols for 3 weeks and asked me to look after a file in his absence. The client was one of the Colleges at Oxford University. This bloke (my colleague) had only written to the College saying, "Thank you for your instructions. I am about to leave for 3 weeks holiday and in my absence, my colleague Miss X will look after the matter. She will deal with any queries that may crop up. I assure you that the matter will receive my personal and most prompt attention when I return. Loadsalurve." I read this and thought, "You snivelling little creep. If you had the time to write rubbish like that then you had time to deal with the matter instead. If I have to TOUCH this file, I will hijack it and I will keep this client for good. For one thing, I've got much more charm than you and for another, I am NOT your skivvy, Matey, no matter what you might prefer to imagine."
